Constipation

Peyton is on the similac RS which has rice in it.  It's bulking her stool up alot.  It's pretty much solid balls.  She is screaming when shes going to the bathroom..and having a hard time getting it out.

The nurse said to put a qtip with vaseline up her butt when shes' trying to go and give her an ounce of sugar water, twice daily.

Does anyone else's pedi's reccomend something different?

Re: Constipation

  • Pedi recommended the sugar water as well as adding one tbsp of prune juice per 4oz of formula. The prune juice worked great.

  • Gross I know, but the vaseline q-tip thing works like a charm.  Just try it.

I'm just afraid i'm going to hurt her somehow.  You do it when they are trying to go right?

  • Our pedi told us to put some Vaseline on the tip of the rectal thermometer and insert the tip in her rear and twist it around to stimulate her bowels.  It works like a charm.  I was afraid at first.  But it gave her such relief afterwards. Good luck.
