Allie has started kicking when she gets mad. She kicked me in the face and broke my glasses and made my nose hurt pretty bad. I held her legs (not hard) and explained kicking is not nice and we shouldn't kick. She seemed really confused. What else can I do?
Re: Help, with kicking.
Ugh, that stinks! We do the same thing with Henry when he hits and have been doing brief, 1-minute time outs. We say, "we do not hit, it isn't nice." And then put him on the bottom stair for a minute. Afterwards we ask him why he was on time out and he usually knows and says "hit mama." Then we reiterate that we don't hit and ask him to say sorry, then give hugs and kisses and proceed as usual.
Good luck, I know how frustrating stuff like this can be!
You know from my vast experience of raising my two year old nephew for 6 months awhile back (insert huge eyeroll here)...LOL
Seriously though, we did the hold the hands/legs thing and a short timeout to reiterate and it seemed to work well but again, I didn't have him long and wasn't his mother so he was always more behaved with me.
I had a kicking problem as a child, and my parents still talk about it! I'm pretty sure they held my legs, too. Along with some serious verbal reprimands. I wasn't beaten or anything, but may have been spanked for it if I hurt them while doing it.
I know that's not real advice though...sorry.
I will try that next. Thanks for the advise ladies. I will try the holding her legs again. I didn't think a two year old had that much power. My eyes watered.
