Babies on the Brain

Hi and Bye - robbery update (longish)

So, as I got home from work Wednesday, I find a subpoena tacked to my door for K to testify against the guy caught robbing all of the houses.

C&P from my blog:

Fresh from court this morning:

I knew about this ahead of time (insider info)....
But one of our neighbors that this kid also admitted to robbing works for the public defenders office.  So... they are refusing to represent him because there will be bias.  LOL.
So he was basically forced to chose between being "defended' by an office that is refusing to help him or waive the prelim and go directly to grand jury.  He chose grand jury.
He will be charged with the 12-15 he admitted to, plus a few older ones where they got his fingerprints.  More than likely it'll be around 20-25 counts.
It was interesting.  Now we just have to hope that he pays for what he did.
Another interesting factoid... know how he was let out on Detective's Release?  The guy who recommended that (the police lieutenant) showed up as a witness for prosecution.  He took all of us (there were several neighbors who showed up) into a little side room and explained the decision-making process and apologized and said that he'd take his lumps and he understood how angry we all are.  Blah blah blah.  Nice enough guy, but as we were all walking out, he looked at me and said, "I can see it in your face.  You are still very angry."  I said, in essence, "Damn right I am.  I am not going to be afraid to walk down the street or become a victim.  But it was MY HOME that he broke into.  I don't care what he stole or what he left.  HE BROKE INTO MY HOME and you let him go again, whatever your decision-making process was.  If I have to live my life within a set of laws and rules, why shouldn't he?  If I start doing drugs, does that mean I can do whatever I want?"  I cannot for the life of me imagine WHY I was the only one who looked angry and wasn't just going to forgive and forget.
So anyway, long story short... we shall see what happens to him.  I'm hoping that he gets spanked, but I'll be shocked if he does since he'll be appearing before the same judge that let him out to begin with.
But when this kid was asking the judge questions about what was happening and how he didn't understand it... the judge said, "Well maybe if you'd spent a little less time committing crimes and more time getting an education and making something of yourself, you would be able to understand what was happening in this courtroom.  I've seen enough of your face, now you can leave."

I miss you all, BTW.

  • I'm so glad to see the update. I miss you too.

I think him going before the same judge is a good thing. He already gave him an opportunity for change. And this kid deomonstrated his ability/willingness to do so quite well.

  • Well, this judge is infamous around here for letting people off very, very easily.  So we shall just wait and see.
  • I would have been very tempted to kick the LT, the judge and the kid in the balls.
