C-section mom's....

I am 5 weeks post c-section --- I am still feeling a lot of soreness/tenderness about 2-3 inches above my scar line -- I don't feel any tenderness at the scar line... can anyone relate?

Also, how much of the belly is still hanging around like jell-o? It's so depressing to see such a round flub on my belly - I can't exercise yet so it's frustrating. Any thoughts/advice? I am still up 17 pounds from pre-preg weight.

Re: C-section mom's....

  • My incision does not hurt at all...the outside is still numb. I think I am feeling the same pain you are describing.  I was convinced something was wrong until a few days ago when I realized that it felt like streching.  I have decided it is scar tissue on the inside and just needs some more time to get less sensitive/streched.  Of course I am not a dr so I could be wrong, but my ob didn't seem concerned when I told her about the pain last week.  I plan on bringing it up again at my next appointment.

As far as the weight/belly......When the pain lessens I will get into working out, until then I have become a mall walker....it is too cold here to walk outside so I go do laps around the mall.  (Doesn't work out too well if I stop for a pretzel...)

  • Is the part where it's sore red and feel hot?  If it is, get it checked out by your doctor, it might be an infection, that's what happened to me.  If it's not it's probably just from where they cut your uterus and should go away soon.

I still have a lot of skin hanging down.  My incision got infected and is still a bit open so I haven't been able to work out yet.  I'm hoping it goes away quickly once I get the okay for that.

  • I had the soreness and tenderness above my scar until about 7 weeks. I was given the OK from the doc at my 6 week appt but waited until 7 weeks. I haven't really started working out which I should. The reason why it feels sore is because your skin was pulled back and that's why the skin is still sore.

As for the hanging skin it's also because the skin was pulled back and it suddenly changed. When you get the OK from the doc and when you feel better start working out and it should be okay. HTH

  • I have some pain/numbness about 2-3 inches above my incision as well.  The ob who did my surgery told me it is because they cut lower than your uterus to avoid cutting your abdominal muscles, so the site of the surgery is really higher than the incision scar.  ALSO - they cut nerves so they take longer to heal.  I was told 6 weeks to recover but that a "full" recovery could take 3-6 months or longer because of the nerves, etc.  Everything you describe sounds normal.

I'm also desperately waiting to exercise - I have been a runner for about 16 years, and pg and recovery is the longest I've gone without exercise in a LOOOONG time.  Just trying to keep things in perspective, and know it will eventually happen and everything will be normal again some day!  :D)
