1st Trimester

Need a good lie for my boss

I'm not ready to tell anyone at work yet (my first day back from my mat leave was literally the first day of my pregnancy, LOL), and want to wait until at least 12 weeks to tell them.

I can keep it from them for sure, except my boss is also on my soccer team.  Obviously I'm not going to play anymore, but I'm not sure what to tell her without making her suspisious.  Any good ideas?

  • tell her that you are just too busy with your little one & the holidays
  • I agree with pp:  too busy with LO to play now that you are back to work.  Or, an old ankle injury that just hasn't been right and don't want to hurt it more??

    Good luck!

    Why can't you play soccer?

Balls seem to be attracted to my stomach...I get the wind knocked out of me about once a game.  Plus, I'd be too nervous to play a contact sport anyway.

She knows I'm a runner, so I think I'll use the idea of telling her I pulled something.  That's a good one...thanks!

  • OOH! Tendonitis! I had in my ankle and there was definately no way I could play soccer.

Honestly, in your first trimester, I see no cause for concern. If you were doing it before, you can continue it as long as you aren't too aggressive. Even if the ball hit you in the stomach it wouldn't do anything to the baby. It's an OWT that seems to linger.

I'm 6 weeks and DS jumps on my stomach, runs into me and plays on me on the ground. If I had been exercising before I got pregnant, you can bet I'd still be doing it!

If you aren't comfortable with it, then yes, stop. I don't see why you need to lie, just say you're taking a break.

  • I would honestly say you pulled something and not blame it on too busy with the LO.  If she's anything like most bosses I've had they don't care about your personal life.  They only care about your work and your work ethic.

Very true...DD climbs all over me using my stomach as a stepping stool, LOL.

It's just beyond my level of comfort.  Probably, nothing would happen, but I don't want to take a chance.  Even running makes me nervous but I keep my heatrate below 140, something that I just can't do playing soccer.
