1st Trimester

Confused at which week to look at.

They say that you have finished the week that you are in, right?

So, If I am 10 weeks 2days that means I have completed 10 weeks and I am in the process of week 11? Is that right? What week do I look at in the development process? So confusing to me. Any insight on this? TIA

Re: Confused at which week to look at.

  • No, you would look at week 10.

  • I get confused by this at least once a week Embarrassed

EDIT: You're in your 11th week, but most books, etc. won't go by that.  So I'm 7 weeks 6 days so I'd look at Week 7.  At least that's how I see it.  I could be wrong.

  • If you want to know what you just finished doing, look at the week you have completed.  If you want to know what's coming up, read the week you are in.  My book is confusing on this as well.
  • correct. if you are 10w2d, you are already in your 11th week, and you should be looking at Week 11 for any information on development.
  • I think the development charts and such go along with how far along you are for simplicity's sake.  So 10w2d I'd look at the 10 week development.  I know that technically you're in your 11th week but I don't think they make it that complicated.

  • I am really confused now... I didn't know that 8 weeks and 5 days means I am in the 9th week, I thought it meant I was 5 days into the 8th week. That is weird! Good to know though..

  • Not sure how the charts go (they probably vary) but I'll try to simplify it for those that are confused.

When you are 1 week pregnant you have already completed one week of your pregnancy.  So when you are 1 week 1 day pregnant, you are technically in the beginning of your 2nd week.

  • i know!! this is so confusing!!  And my "what to expect" app lists me as week seven (with the corresponding dates) even though i am 6w5d.  sigh...
  • What you need to do is stop looking at things in terms of days.  Look at them in weeks.  When you hit the 10 week mark, look at Week 10 in the books.

This... although I always read ahead just because I am curious. So this week in my baby book I read 'week 7' even though I am 7 weeks and 1 day.

Think of it this way, when a baby turns one year old, they've already lived an entire year of life - and at one year and one day, they're into their second year of life.

So, I am 13 weeks today.  Tomorrow, 13w 1d, is the start of my 14th week.  I generally read ahead, I'd rather know what's coming up in week 14 than retroactively read what happened during week 13.  Do what you want though.

I agree, thanks everyone for the input!
