Trying to Get Pregnant

Am I being too impatient?

I have an appt to see an RE on Friday and my husband is a little hesitant about going and says that I'm moving through doctors when I don't like the outcome and should just stick with the one I have now.  Do you agree?  Here's what's happened...

In April I met with my old Ob/GYN and told her that I hadn't been ovulating and wanted to know what we should do since I wanted to get pregnant.  She told me that since I was just starting to try that my husband and I should just try and try a lot since I didn't know when I'd O.  I thought that was ridiculous advice and in September when I needed to get my yearly exam done I switched to a new GYN.  He immediately did some tests and eventually found that I have PCOS.  He put me on clomid at the beginning of this month and said call at the end of the month and let him know if it worked or not.  Well it didn't work and I went crazy all month trying to monitor myself whether or not I O'd (Don't think I did) and felt like I'd be better off with an RE (based on what people have said on here and other reading I've done).  I made an appt with an RE for this Friday.  Since I want to keep my current GYN in the loop I tried to schedule an appt with them to follow up but they don't have anything available until Late Jan/early Feb.  I don't want to wait that long so I am keeping my appt with the RE.

Am I doing the right thing or should I wait to meet with my GYN first?

Re: Am I being too impatient?

  • Since you have a diagnosed issue, I see no problem going to an RE.  If you didn't have a diagnosis, I would say wait until you hit the year mark, but since you do, I would go to an RE if I were you.  They are generally better equipped to deal with your issues than an OBGYN.  I would also not take any more Clomid until after your RE appointment.

  • If you're not ovulating, didn't respond to clomid, and have insurance coverage to see a RE, I'd go for it and see them.

  • I think you should meet with the RE since you are not ovulating on your own and your GYN is giving you Clomid unmonitored. There is no reason to really keep your GYN in the loop once you start with an RE. They do all the monitoring, prescribing and everything. I say keep the appointment on Friday. Plus, once you start working with an RE they do a lot of testing etc. before they can diagnose you and start doing anything so you probably will have to wait until January anyway. GL!

  • You do not need to visit your GYN to discuss what happened with the RE - the RE should be sending all paperwork to your GYN. If you do not have a good feeling about your doctor, there is nothing wrong with changing doctors.
  • whatever you choose (I vote RE)... definitely do not do another cycle on clomid without u/s and bloodwork monitoring.

  • I think you're doing the right thing! Clomid is a serious drug and you should be monitored - which I am sure the RE will do.  Better to see an expert, since you have a diagnosed fertility issue.

Good luck to you! I'm trying with PCOS, too, and I know it's not easy.

  • Thanks. I have a refill for Clomid but am not taking it.  I don't want to "use up" my few chances with clomid before getting monitoring in place.

I guess I meant with keeping the GYN in the loop is letting them know I'm going to my RE and that the first month on clomid was unsuccessful... and then asking them to send my records to the RE.

I know all this stuff is making me a little crazy but I'm glad this isn't one example:)
