Hi!
My name is Ariel and I am studying to become a Doula. Each week I need to interview women for homework assignments and I thought maybe I could find moms by reaching out in the forums here. Any help would be great. Thank you!
Interview three women whoselabors were medically induced. Intwo columns list the self-help and the medical methods these women used tobring on labor and their reaction to each method.
Re: Was your labor induced?
I was induced at 41 wks exactly. I had done alot of the self-help methods such as resetting the clock, pineapple, membrane stripping, walking constantly. Nothing happened. I had a few BH, but that was about it.
Medically I had Cervidil inserted for 12 hours. It slowly started labor and my water broke on its own after 9 hours of Cervidil. After Cervidil I received pitocin. The contractions were much stronger and after 2 hours of pit I received an epi.
It was a great experience and I would do it again in a heartbeat!
I was induced at 36w 6d due to IUGR. I started first with Evening Primrose Oil vaginally for about 4-5 days prior to the induction hoping to get something going. Until then I had been completely sealed up. When I arrived at the hospital I was a fingertip dilated and 65% effaced so I would not doubt that the EPO did help.
Started that night on Prostin (similar to Cervadil) vaginal suppositories at 8:00pm, to ripen the cervix further. Received 3 doses of this overnight every 4 hours although my body started laboring/contracting on it's own after 2 doses. At 9:00 am I was 1 cm dilated and 75% effaced, started Pitocin. Contrax got very intense, by 11:00 am I was asking for some pain meds to take the edge off until I had progressed far enough to get the epidural. I was given Stadol (a narcotic) which helped the contrax greatly. BUT a half an hour later the doc came in and broke my water AND cranked the Pit at the same time. The Stadol was no longer effective AT ALL! I was begging for the epidural and was told they'd prefer I hold out until I was farther along. At 1-2 cm and 75% effaced I finally convinced them to give me the epi, about an hour after my water was broken.
Epi only took on one side to make a long story short. But it was much better than suffering on both sides. To help with the pain which was still excruciating since it only took on one side they were giving me IV boluses of more epi meds and Fentanyl. (They did this 3 times before I actually delivered.) This took enough edge off to where I wasn't wanting to die! The next time I was checked I was at 6-7 cm and 90% effaced. An hour later I was 8-9 and the doctor went to get changed. I was pushing shortly after. One hour of pushing and a vacuum extraction and my baby was here at 8:32 pm, about 24 hours after the induction process started.
Momma Maven In The Making!
I was induced at 40 weeks "just because." Yes, I understand many women feel this is irresponsible, but diff'rent strokes for diff'rent folks.
I was started on cervadil @ 8pm on a Monday and made no progress. I was contracting every 2 minutes and the pain was extreme. I had no option other than a narc. because it was so early. On Tuesday @ 6pm I received my epi. At 8pm the epi started leaking and was completely worn off by 8:30pm. The 2nd epi went in @ 9:30pm. I was scheduled to receive pitocin around midnight, but it got pushed back because my cervix was not ready.
At 2am on Wednesday I said that I refused to lay in the hospital bed anymore and I was going home unless I got a section NOW. Called the doc, cried to him and told him I was done. She was born at 2:37am via c-section
It was a LOOOOOOOOOOONG and painful labor with no progress. I don't think my body is meant to have babies. I wish I would have been more patient and let nature take its time. Laying in bed for 6 hrs paralyzed from the epi was the worst.
I was induced with my midwife breaking my water. My contractions started up within the hour. Once they started, I used nipple stimulation to keep the contractions coming nice and strong. I could feel a contraction come within about 10 seconds of doing nipple stimulation.
