Babies: 0 - 3 Months

Please recommend your bottle!

Question from a 1st time mom from 2nd tri.  DH and I were slightly overwhelmed by bottle choices when doing our registry yesterday.  They all claim to help reduce colic, have the best nipple, and blah blah blah.

Is there any difference?  Are their claims true?  My current plan (and yes, that may change) is to EBF, but I also want DH to share in the feeding experience and to give me a break.  So I am guessing I would only few bottles....right?

I would appreciate pros and cons of bottles you have used.  Anything to help weed out my choices!

TIA!

Re: Please recommend your bottle!

  • We breastfeed and bottle (with expressed breast milk).  Our DS really likes Dr. Brown bottles.  We've tried others but they haven't worked as the flow was too great or the shape of the nipple wasn't quite right.

Honestly for us it was trial and error.  I wouldn't buy too many of any one kind as your LO will have preference all their own.

  •  Playtex Drop-ins are fantastic in my opinion. Also the Playtex vent-air ones were nice. The drop ins are the easiest though IMO.

Ditto.  LO also loves the Medela ones.

  • We have tried lots of bottles and DS is super picky

Dr.Browns- suck I think, the nipples are small and do not encourage breast feeding.

Born Free- I liked them, they had a good nipple but even the slow nipple was a little fast and they gave the DS gas

Adiri- was the worst DS hated it and it was a big wast of money

playtex  vent air- was a pretty good bottle I liked the nipple it is the most like breast feeding .

Playtex drop ins- this is what we finally went with, it has the same nipple as the vent air but DS seems to have less gas with these than the vent air.

This is just my opinion, all babies are different. If you are trying to BF try to pick  a bottle that is like a breast nothing with a funny nipple or narrow nipple. you want them to latch on to the bottle like they would latch onto you.

  • We had registered for Dr. Brown's and BornFree. Ended up returning all the Dr. B's and using BornFree exclusively. DS never had a problem with them, and we loved them.

  • I would honestly try to wait until LO was born, we planned to EBF also but had 2 sample bottles we had got from wherever.

Turns out I wasn't able to BF and LO liked the Born Free or Platex wide nipples.

  • I really like Born Free bottles.

  • We love Born Free and Playtex Ventaire Wide. Born Free is amazing LO never spits up with them and they promote breast feeding only thing that sucks about them is they are expensive. As for the playtex wide I love them because they mimic latching on the best and LO tends to be less gassy. The draw back is you have to make sure the bottom is on tight enough of they can leak when heating them up and they can be a pain to wash but almost every bottle these days are because they all have some kind of venting system. .
  • Thanks for all the info ladies!
  • We love our Ventaire bottles with wide nipples!
