growth spurt = sleeping all day?

Delilah is just under 7 weeks and has literally been sleeping for the ENTIRE day.  She usually sleeps a lot, but wakes up for long periods a few times during the day.  She was awake for around an hour this morning, then went to sleep after her bath at around 10am and is still sleeping (it's 9pm here now).  She sort of woke up for feedings, but was so tired that I had to struggle to keep her from falling asleep at the boob...something I haven't had to worry about in weeks!

The only time she was remotely awake was when DH came home from work.  She perked right up and gave him like ten smiles (I got none today!) but then went right back to sleep a half hour later.

Could this be the start of her six week growth spurt?  I thought she was supposed to be eating more and fussing 24/7 during growth spurts...but instead, she's less demanding about food and sleeping like crazy.  Anyone else have this happen with their LO?

  • I am so happy you posted this because I was wondering the same thing. We've been dealing with some fairly bad gas issues with DS, which means he is a fairly fussy baby for a 1/2 hour or so after most feedings until the mylicon or gripe water kicked in. However, starting mid-day yesterday it was everything I could do to keep him awake through an entire feeding and the few times he did stay awake he required an extra 1/2 oz (so 4 oz total) and would then just pass out. And I didn't even have to use the mylicon or the gripe water. I'm not used to this from my lil' guy. He seemed drugged almost -- it was sort of comical and disconcerting all at the same time! Hoping it's a 6 week growth spurt and we're some how managing to avoid the increased fussiness.

  • Madison was like that when she was 6 weeks 1 day.  She slept ALL DAY.  She woke up once during the middle of the night after sleeping all day, which she normally STTN, and was back to normal the next day.

  • Jackson has been sleeping all day for the past few days and I was kind of wondering if it was the same thing.  He will be 6 weeks tomorrow.
