A few questions from a first time mom( teething and formula)

Hello all, I have a 9 week old daughter and I just noticed the past day or two she has been drooling a lot and I find her fist in her mouth a lot....almost like she is hungry all of the time....is this a growth spurt or is she teething? She has been very sleepy too and fussy really bad at night.

Also, I started supplementing formula with breast milk, due to me going back to work soon. We are using Similac ( what my pedi recommends). I am alternating between a breastmilk bottle and then a formula bottle. Is this ok? She has been spitting up a lot today...do you think she does not like the formula? Do you ever mix breastmilk and formula together in a bottle? Once I go back to work I am still going to pump so I can still give her breastmilk in addition to formula. Thanks!

  • Babies don't teeth at 9 wks unless they are rare freaks of nature.  She could be having a growth spurt but also it is normal at this age to "discover" their mouths and began to chew and suck on things like their fists.  Drool is also normal.

I don't mix BM w/Formula b/c if it isn't all eaten you are throwing away good BM.

If it isn't a lot of spit up I wouldn't worry.

  • I agree with the not teething - more likely a growth spurt or self-soothing at this point.

As for mixing formula with BM, I did it all the time. If you are concerned about wasting good BM, only mix small amounts at a time - like 2-3oz

    GL!

  • At my Lo's 2 month appointment the pedi said that he can see shadows and that I shoud'nt be surprised if a tooth pops out soon. So she might be teething.
