DH and I have a Boxer that stays at my parents house because they have a huge back yard. Well she went into heat at the end of October and while she was in the back yard one day playing a big Lab jumped the 5 ft. fence and they locked up. Today we were over at their house and she is obviously KU! YAY for having Boxadors.

That's great that you are getting to have puppies.  But, honestly, it saddens me that you have contributed to pet overpopulation by failing to fix your dog.  I am sure that these puppies will have loving homes, but there are only a limited number of good homes for all the dogs out there.  Regardless, I hope the puppies and mama come through everything happy and healthy!

OH let me tell you our little story about that, it makes all of this so much better!!

We go to the army vet because for active duty all you have to pay for at the vet are the shots and meds, and because there are so many people it takes forever to get an appointment. We called back in September, and got an appointment for the 12th or 13th of October. Cant remember exactly. But DH and I took her to the vet that day they called us back and we got in there. The vet tech looked at her and said that they could not do it because she was at the begining of her heat cycle, they we would have to let this one run its course and bring her back 2-3 months after she came out of heat.

Well when my parents would let her in the back yard to run they would put her in side the privacy fence that was around the pool, well she dug a hole under the fence and under the steps and got out, and thats when the male dog jumped the fence we were inside and heard something out side and went out there and we got out the door apparently right as they locked up.

Spaying at the beginning of, the middle of, or the end of a dog's estrus (heat cycle) is a veterinarian's personal choice.  It IS possible to spay a dog during any point of the estrus cycle, but there are added risks to doing it when the blood vessels are engorged and potentially more likely to tear during the surgery.  So, it could be done, but your vet chooses not to do it (and that's not a bad decision).  I will often do a spay at the beginning or end of the estrus, but typically not right smack in the middle of it.

As for the puppies, I am hopeful that they all will have loving homes.  Please, please ensure that your parents get some prenatal care for the mom/pups (i.e. getting her checked about 42 days after breeding to know how many are in there) and if you've never been through a whelping before, seek out information from your vet so that you know when it is appropriate to get more care during the whelping period.

I'm sure you tried your best!  Sounds like a lot of bad luck conspired together to get your dog knocked up.  But you really should have gotten her spayed way before her first heat cycle -- at about 6 months old, or earlier even.

You should also make sure that all the puppies are fixed.  Don't give them to anyone with intentions to breed them.  And you could also require, under a contract, that they spay or neuter them by a certain time or you'll take them back.

Yeah, Im going to call the vet tomorrow to get her in to be check out to make everything is ok and find out how many pups there are. Also I know a few friends who are wanting dogs so maybe they could get some. And we are going to have the pups fixed. The problem with our dog was that we were told she was fixed when DH got her, she is not registered there was no paper work or anything done it was just quick and dirty had over the money get a pup thing, we got her when she was 4 months. The first vet visit with her back in August we had set up to have her shots done (since we didnt get anytype of paperwork with her and they said they could not find her shot records we decided to start from square one with everything) and that is when they told us she was not fixed and they did not have next months schedule out yet so we had to call back later to get an appointment. And it all went from there.

But on a good note my moms BFF used to breed yorkies and labs and when she decided to stop doing that she started taking in rescues since she has the big space for housing them (they live on big farm), She keeps the rescues and finds them good homes. She interviews everyone that wants to adopt a dog. And she said that she would help us. But we are going to get the pups fixed. No more doggies coming from us.
