I'm going back to work tomorrow. DD2 has had bottles periodically. I've been putting 4 oz. in them for the last couple of weeks for the handful of them that she has had a bottle. I'm just wondering what other little ones drink if you send pumped bottles to daycare, etc. I'm thinking she may drink more and I'm going to leave a couple of frozen bags with my mom for backup. But I guess I'll start with 4 oz. for now.
Re: How many oz of bm in a bottle for 2 to 3 month old?
This is what my pedi told me
Average intake by age: birth to two months: 2-5 ounces per feeding
two to four months: 4-6 ounces per feeding
four to six months: 5-7 ounces per feeding
Average intake by weight: The average baby who isn?t eating anything but milk needs about two and a half ounces per pound of weight. Some babies need more, some need less in order to gain weight adequately. A ten-pound baby needs about 25 ounces in twenty-four hours (round up an ounce or two to be on the safe side ? say 27 ounces) which means that if he eats eight times in 24 hours, he would need a little over three ounces at each feeding. You?ll get a feel for how much he will eat at each feeding as he begins to take bottles on a regular basis.
this is what a LC told me as well. you use the weight of the baby at 6 wks cause that is when your milk production regulates. your baby should not need more ounces per day as they get older cause your milk changes to meet baby's needs with same # ounces... she also said she usually adds 0.5 oz to whatever the calculation comes out to for each feeding in a bottle cause babies usually take more in the bottle...
This is interesting. I did not know this. Thank you for the information.
This. My doctor said that LO should be eating about 4oz by the time she is 2 months old.
