BFing moms... question

How many cup sizes did you go up when your milk came in? I know it is usually quite a bit. Did you stay that big for the duration or does it go down once you've gotten used to nursing?

I'm in dire need of a new bra (again) and am debating if I should buy a nursing bra or if that will just be useless because I won't be anything close to my current size once I am BFing. TIA!

Re: BFing moms... question

  • Mine got huge when my milk came in, but as soon as I nursed and drained them, they went back down to my normal size.

  • I went up one cup size from a 34F to a 34G. I waited to buy mine till after my milk came in. The only thing that sucked was waiting for the bras to arrive. I had to special order bc of my size and it took nearly a week to get them in even with paying an arm and a leg for shipping. I am still a 34G 3 weeks PP. I have a feeling they will stay this way forever :(
  • Mine got a bit bigger, but not enough to necessitate a new bra size. I have rather small breasts though (36 A) I had to make my nursing bras since they don't make A cup nursing bras. I just bought the kind that have a metal ring where the strap meets the cup at the front, cut off the ring and sewed in a snap. You could do that but wait until your milk comes in to make the adjustment. In a pinch (since the snap's come un-sewen a few times) I just use a safety pin.

This is one of those questions that there is no answer to. Everyone is different.

  • Mine stayed a C, just changed to a full C.  I did have to buy a couple of cheap nursing bras at Target with a bigger band size though.  The Target bras seem to be working great and are a lot less money... fyi
  • pre pg I was a 34C
all during my pregnancy I was a 34C

Now that I am breast feeding I figured I would need bigger bras......nope, still wearing a 34C!

I was really hoping for bigger boobs at some point but I guess not. As long as they produce what ds needs Im fine w/ that!

I did the same thing and bought a 34D nursing bra when I was pg thinking I would only increase one size and it doesn't fit at all. I had to go to target yesterday and get a DD!

  • Get a Bravado nursing bra.  They come in cup size ranges so that you don't have to worry about your breasts varying in size.  They're awesome.

  • Just something to think about- your ribs may very well expand in your last trimester making your band size change rather than your cup size. I went from a 34 pre-preg to a 40 by the end of pregnancy.

  • It is different for everyone. I would recommend getting a Bravado in your third trimester as they have bras that fit a variety of sizes and they also have ways to measure yourself while pregnant to get a proper fitting bra.

  • Mine got huge during my pregnancy and stayed the same size.
  • prepregnancy 34B ,during pregnancy C cup and at 36 wks 34D.When I went to get bras at the maternity store the lady said maternity bras fit differently incomparison to regular bras. I wouldn't be suprised if I need to up my size though because sometimes I pop out and my nipples feel squished.

Buy a nursing bra!!!!! I was going to try to do without, but there would be no way I could nurse with ease without it.

I second trying the Bravado until you can get properly fitted.  You could also try a Glamourmom tank.  Bravado's website has a lot of helpful info on figuring out your pp bra size.
