6 Weeker eats too fast - how to slow her down?

Two times now she eats so fast that she throws up after. I burp her after every ounce and I try and take a long time burping her each time but she's just sucking it down so quickly. Any advice?

  • Well this is obvious but you have the slowest nipple flow on right? Maybe take it away from her every couple minutes? How fast does she finish it? Mine have the opposite problem!!

  • I'm not much help as I'm in pretty much the same boat.

Actually what happened with us was: LO was on rice cereal for reflux, but after he was put on baby Zantac I weaned him off the rice. I guess he was so used to having to suck hard to get his milk, he now guzzles and slurps and then spits everywhere.

My only advice is to make sure you are using slow flow nipples. GL!

  • Sweets - Brady and Abigail are absolutely adorable!!!

Yep, slow nipple...and she cries bloody murder when I stop to burp her so I can't imagine taking it away but will definitely give it a try, poor baby...

  • oooh, I just spoke to my pedi about this, he advised that I screw the top of her bottle on too tight so that when DD sucks it creates a vacuum and slows down how fast they can gulp it down.  I thought that maybe this would create gas problems but he said it wouldn't.  However, this wouldn't work it you're using the drop-ins bottles...GL:-)
