BF Help

I EBF & pump for extra back up if im overfull. I do not have a pumping Schedule.  Sometimes when DD eats my boob will get really soft & she will not latch on she tries really hard to but just seems unable to, she gets really mad & frustrated.  I squeeze my boob & lots of milk comes out so its not like im empty.  I end up giving her a bottle with BM because we both end up really frustrated.  Does this happen to any of you & what do you do for it please help.  DD is 5 weeks old.

Re: BF Help

  • She may be going thru a growth spurt.  When DD went thru her 3 week & 6 Week growth spurts she got really frustrated while nursing.  Keep in mind that the milk comes out of your breast a lot slower than out of a bottle.  I never did any scheduled pumping, I just fed DD on demand, and if I had to give her a bottle instead I would pump as soon as I could afterwards (or have DH or someone else give her the bottle so you can pump) to keep your supply up.  It sounds like you're doing good though, it's unbelievable how difficult something is that is supposed to come naturally!

thank you i feel tons better about this now!!!

  • My LO is just about 4weeks and while I don`t pump, I find that she does sometimes let go of the boob and then gets frustrated when she can`t get herself back on.  I have found that giving her a break, ie trying to burp her for a minute or so, and then put her back on the boob she will attach herself back on without a problem or if you change your boob position slightly (I have found leaning forward a bit helps) and often they will reattach without further frustration
  • Anyone who bf's goes through this frustration.  Remember that your LO can sense this, so take a deep breath, and a break, and try again later.  I would not recommend giving a bottle if you want to feed from the breast.  Your LO will latch on and drink before starving, so just be patient and know that you are not alone.  Sometimes my LO needs to be calmed down with rocking, talking, and walking before he can latch on.
