Is it "wrong" to give LO milk from the fridge? Cold?

Just wondering - was talking about this with a friend who insists on warming it to room temp. or hotter each bottle...

  • I don't see where its wrong if LO will take it, but mine won't do it.

  • It's not wrong if they don't mind.  Personally I would think it would be more soothing warm, but it's not necessary.

  • I read an article that said that babies had no preference when given room temp bottles vs. warm.  I don't know about bottles from the fridge.  I've tried it and it always makes/made LOs gasp.
  • My thought on this is that breast milk is warm so formula should be warm. I don't know if it's wrong or harmful in any way.

  • The instructions given to us with the breastpump we rented says cold milk can lower body temp and is dangerous for newborns.

Who knows. I'd ask your pedi. I meant to at my last appt but I forgot.

Bro, but look how many ants are on this trash can...

  • It's alright to give them a cold bottle. I do it sometimes. When we are out and I have way of warming it. He likes it better warm, but if he is hungry he will eat it. Plus on a warm day it kind of cools him down.

  • I've given LO cold bottles since I stopped EBFing and started pumping, which was within the first week or two.  He's had no issues with it.
  • It's not wrong if your LO is OK with it. Some are, and some aren't. Our DD#1 was fine with it occasionally, but sometimes she refused it until it was warm. It didn't occur to me, but DH said it was probably because the cold milk gave her brain freeze sometimes.

DD#2 refuses cold milk so far.

  • Haha, DH didn't realize and was only warming enough to melt the frozen bm for a while there.  But she kind of fusses thru the feeding.  So we normally warm up to body temp.
  • If my LO would take it anywhere near cold i would do it
  • My LO always takes it cold.  I figure that if it's working, I'm not going to change anything.  It definitely saves some time and inconvenience to serve it cold though.
