Miscarriage/Pregnancy Loss

Miscarriage at almost 5 weeks?

Hi all -

I had a positive pregnancy test about 10 days ago.  We went out of town on the day that I got the positive pregnancy test.  However, it was either a chemical pregnancy or a very early miscarriage because last night I started bleeding.  It's pretty heavy, but other than that, appears to be a normal period.

I wasn't sure if I needed to call my doctor?  If I had not of taken a pregnancy test so early, I would have just assumed my period arrived late. I feel really stupid calling to tell them I was pregnant for a week and would prefer to just handle this on my own if I can. Thanks in advance for your advice.

  • I agree that it was  probably a chemical pregnancy, but I would call the dr just in case he/she wants to check your betas. Sorry for your loss.

  • I'm so sorry for your loss.  Regardless of how early it was, it is a good idea to talk to your doctor about it.  God forbid, if something like this were to happen again, many times docs won't do testing until you've had multiple losses.  Getting the information on your charts and getting advice from your doctor will be good to have for the future.  {{BIG HUGS}}

  • I am going through the same thing right now.  You need to talk to your doctor and let them know.  It probably is a fluke thing, but if you have subsequent losses following this, you will want them all documented.

    We now are 99% sure that I ahad a chemical pg in 7/08.  I wouldn't have thought too much of it had I not had a 10 week m/c in Feb 2001 and May 2001.  Now I am having another one.

    Your doctor just needs to be in the loop.  I am really sorry that you are going through this.  Believe me, I know how awful and helpless it feels.

  • I'm sorry for your loss.

    I agree with PPs.  I would call your doctor just to see if you should go in to get checked out and so your records are up-to-date.  You definitely shouldn't feel stupid for calling them.  It's their job to give you medical care and advice.  They will not (or, at least, should not) be annoyed or put out that you've kept them aprised of events regarding your health.
  • Your story almost mirrors mine of 5 weeks ago.  Like pp's have said, tell your doc.

    I'm so sorry that you are going through this.  T's and P's are with you!

  • I agree that your doc should be made aware of it.  They may want you to come in for blood work.  Sending T&P your way!!
