Babies: 0 - 3 Months

Cold weather question...

I got the JJ Cole BundleMe at my baby shower. I tried to get it on the car seat, it just looks weird. The general consensus on 3rd tri now seems to be that it's not safe to use in the car. What do you use? I live in MI, it gets really cold. Should I just use blankets in the car? I have a cute bunting bag snowsuit thingy for LO. I'm due in less than 4 weeks and it's getting cold here, so I'd like to figure out what we'll use.

Re: Cold weather question...

  • Can I ask why the consensus is that it's not safe? We used ours several times and DD seems quite content in it.

  • We live in SD and have a carseat cover that just goes over the top of the carseat (kind of like a shower cap, with elastic around the edges).  It doesn't touch B when he is sitting in it.  They have them at Target and are alot cheaper than the BundleMe.
  • Good question.  I'm in MI too, and have one, but haven't even taken it out of the package.  Now that I have it, it doesn't really same practical.  :(   When we go out in the cold I put her in a little fleece zip up, and a blanket over her lap. HTH.

Because it puts a layer between Baby and car seat, I think.

    Thanks! I'll check it out.

  • I pulled ours out for Thanksgiving because I was just using lots of blankets for the past few weeks but they are so annoying.  I love the BundleMe and I don't think it seems unsafe at all, I fasten him in tight and he is as secure as he was before I put it in the car seat.

Using blankets are annoying for me because when the cold wind comes up it tries to blow the blanket away.  And when you are carrying the carseat, holding on to the blankets trying to keep them over LO, and carrying a diaper bag it gets to be a juggling match.

  • There is some thought that original one interfered with the car seat straps. From my understanding this is no longer the case. If it weren't safe, they couldn't sell it.

I got a new one--we used the old one a lot...even when we used a different top, we still used the warm lining. The new ones have fleece instead of "sherpa" lining which is much softer. I got a new one for that reason and the colors are better than three years ago.

This. I get tons of compliments on our carseat cover and it is not a safety risk to our baby.

  • I live in MI too, and we use a Kiddopotamus car seat cover that goes over the entire seat.  We also put DS in a jacket and tuck blankets around him once he's snapped into the seat.

  • Technically it isn't safe because it is another layer between the car seat and LO but many people use them. Also a thicker snowsuit isn't safe for the same reason.

We have a cover that just goes over the top of the car seat and then put a blanket around her with her normal clothes, she stays plenty warm.
