Babies: 0 - 3 Months

Question from 3rd tri about sleeping/showering

So, I might get flamed for this, but I'm asking now so that when the baby comes, I won't be a 'bad mum'...

If your baby is down for a nap, and there is no one else at home, can you leave him/her sleeping in the bassinet/crib while you shower for 10 minutes? We have an ensuite, so I could keep the bathroom door open to the bedroom, and hear if the baby cries...just wondering what the opinions of new moms were on this.

Re: Question from 3rd tri about sleeping/showering

  • Yes, absolutely. If I couldnt, I'd never shower.

  • I'd bring the baby monitor in to the bathroom with you. Right now I bring the bassinet into the bathroom with me or I get her in the bouncy seat in there with me, she loves the sound of the shower.

  • Abso-freakin-lutly...  and eat and do laundry and wash bottles and pump and...
  • Of course you can. You can also put the baby in a bouncer and bring it in the bathroom with you if they are awake.... That works for us most of the time.
  • Yep, I would agree that leaving the baby sleeping in the bassinet or crib nothing but safe.  You could leave the bathroom door open, or just take the baby monitor into the bathroom with you.

  • I would never shower if I didn't do this.  The first time I was a bit on edge, but after that, I totally felt comfortable.
  • Definitely.  As pp's have said, you can also put your LO in the bouncy seat and bring him into the bathroom with you.  Baby sleep time is the best time to get things done!

  • No flames here!(I had to call my mom to figure out if this was okay :-))

Absolutely! If you don't, you won't ever get a shower :-)

Also, when LO is big enough to sit in the bouncy seat, you can put him or her in the bathroom in that so he/she can see you if you pull the curtain back.  I turn on the fan and leave the door open.  LO loves the sound of the running water :-)

  • Those are the most precious 15 minute of the day IMO. Wherever Trent falls asleep I place the moniter then I lock the dog in another room and enjoy my shower.
  • I either put DS in the bassinet and roll it into the bathroom, or put him in his bouncer while I shower.
  • I run around my house like a mad women while he's sleeping! (I've even run across the street to the mailbox once or twiceSurprise)

You're not a bad mother. While baby is in the bassinet/crib they are safe (pending you don't have stuff in the crib with them). If you have a pet, though, I'd make sure the animal is locked out of whatever room baby is in.

    This.

Unless I feel disgusting, I wait until DH gets home.   I have put him in his bouncy in the bathroom with me.  He liked the sound of the water.

  • I bring the bouncer into the bathroom with me. I have a dog and don't like leaving the baby alone.  If I didn't have a dog I would just bring the monitor with me into the bathroom.
