Our LO's baptism is tomorrow...do we tip the minister or make a donation to the church or anything? How much? Sorry if this is a dumb question, I really have no idea!
Our church charged a nominal fee. We also donated a bit for the use of the church's parish center afterwards (for lunch and cake). We didn't tip the priest because it was during a regular mass. However, he came to the meal afterwards so I kind of consider lunch his tip. lol
I have never heard of this. I don't think you need to give anything in addition to regular tithing. You are a member of the church, right? So it's not like you're asking a stranger to baptize your child. I don't think you need to do anything extra.
My parents covered the donation to the priest and they gave him $150. They are also members and volunteers at that church. I really think it's up to your own discretion how much you give. I think anything is considered a kind gesture.
My DH is a Lutheran minister and we both grew up going to church. I've never heard of tipping the minister for a baptism. It's during the regular church service and it's just a regular "duty" of being a pastor as far as I'm concerned. That being said, I know people who have made donations, or put flowers on the altar in honor of their LO for baptism. I believe it's totally optional. DH says he wouldn't even accept a tip for baptism - he would instruct the couple to give it to the church.
That being said, I realize that in other faiths or in certain churches it might be very normal and even expected to tip the minister. But I've lived in both central PA and the Seattle, WA area and never heard of it before.

This exactly (my DH is a Lutheran minister as well).
God bless your day tomorrow; our little one will be baptized tomorrow as well!

this. I am Lutheran, and we had ds baptized 3 weeks ago. We invited the pastor to the luncheon afterwards but that is it.
Hope you have a great day tomorrow!
