Babies on the Brain

Hypothetical Question

Lets say, hypothetically of course, you were going to fly across the country to visit these totally awesome bitches.  But flights departing from the airport closest to you are $200 more than the flights from the airport 2 hours away.

So, would you save $200 and hate yourself for flying out of that airport when you're driving home for 2 hours after a 9 hour flight?  Or would you just pay the extra $200 for each ticket to know you only have to drive 20 minutes home?

Hypothetically.

Re: Hypothetical Question

  • Oh no. Now I'm going to feel bad.

Hypothetically, you should look at LAX, as well as the Ontario Airport, as they are hypothetically nearby and equidistant, if that helps?

I used to have to drive 2 hours to Vegas from Barstow when I flew, and it was rough. So I would say, it would depend on if you have to work within the next 12 hours.

  • Ok, that information helps.  I'm using the orbitz 'flexible calender' thingy and just selecting 30 days between June and July.  I was only searching for flights from the 3 airports around here to LAX but I'll try Ontario too.

Let me put it this way: If we fly from Greensboro, we're 20 minutes from home but we have to either leave our car or get my mom to take us.  If we leave from Raleigh, we can get my MIL to take us, or leave the car at the airport, but it's a 2 hour drive home from there.  Charlotte isn't even really an option because we'd HAVE to leave the car and it's a 2 hour drive home too.

Total cost from Raleigh if we can leave the car at MIL's is $440.  From Greensboro it would be at least $828.

I inherited the cheap gene from my dad and I just can't see spending double when we drive that trip all the time...I'm just really not sure if I'm going to want to do it after a 9 hour flight.

ETA: Time off really isn't an issue.  If we need to take the following day off to recover or sleep after a red eye, so be it.  This will probably be our vacation for the year.

  • Well, when I used to fly into Vegas and lived in Barstow, it was all about the cost factor. It was always cheaper to fly there, so DH, before he was an H and just the bf, would drive the 2 hours so I could save the money.

So I would probably do it if I were you, but, like I said, it would really depend on what and when. If you had to work in the next few hours, it might be too stressful, but if you got in and had time to readjust to the time change, I don't think 2 hours is really too bad.

  • i will demand that you come more north to visit!..

  • Ok, I'm going to keep searching Raleigh.  We'll deal.  I just remember the nightmare that was driving to Florida for our honeymoon.  Not something I ever want to experience again.

    Shrek? How much farther north?

She's a good 7 hours from us. It's obvoious she should be living in SOcal with the cool peeps! :):):)

  • Oh goodness.

Sounds like Shrek family needs to come to Disney Land while CB and Mr. CB are in SoCal.

  • Keep going north...Seattle north. ;)
  • Oh, and flying into Ontario is $100 to $150 per ticket more expensive than LAX.  So as long as it's not too inconvenient, we'll probably just fly into LAX.

  • I DID see a flight that had a layover in Seattle...

  • I think ONT is closer to TW, but its really hit or miss on the tickets. Sometimes it's cheaper, sometimes it's not. I like the ONT airport just cuz its small, so I always tried to fly from it if it was cheaper.

But LAX is 30 min from me, super easy drive, so I could get you from LAX for sure.

  • Oh how I wish I had $436 to blow right now.

  • OMG!

Put one of those little email alerts on your comp! And check out southwest. They have those wanna get away fares for like 99 all the time!

  • I can try those email alert things, but I checked out Southwest--they aren't accepting reservations past May something, but flights on the cheap days are like $89 one way each.  After taxes and everything, that's still about the same as the one on Orbitz.

  • i am just so excited at this possibility!!!!!!!! I need something to get me to survive this school year, and this is quite possibly that thing! :D
  • DUDE. What if you move before I get there! Crying

  • Nonononono, not possible! If you come in June or July, anyway. We have a lease for our house up until the end of July. And when you pay 2k a month for rent, you don't leave even a minute before it's up.

So, if/when we move, it will be at the very end of July and start of August!

  • Woot!

I am so not going to be able to sleep tonight.  It's 3am and I'm looking at flights to California 8 months from now.

And I totally need to go to bed because I have to drop DH off somewhere at 9.  And then go shopping.

    The excitement is killing me.

Ohshit.  What if I get pregnant this month?

one step at a time. even in my vicodin-ed state, we must remain calm.

Get some sleep. We will plan the funnest time ever. I have 3 weeks to survive until Christmas break. We'll make it perfect.

I think TW and I have the same spring break if it has to be sooner.

  • You are wise.

I asked TW what week spring break was there, and if it's the same for you, it's the week after spring break here--which sucks because I'm not sure I'd want to take a week off while the kid I watch is in school.  It will be much easier to swing a week in the summer because her mom can just make sure she goes to some kind of camp that week.  They tend to go somewhere the week of spring break, so I was hoping by some crazy strike of fate spring break would so happen to be the same there.

  • We always have a wonky spring break. Also, last year, Chris and I went home and we may try to again. Summer is very good. But I'd rather you get pg this month. GAH! Day by day.
  • With my luck we'd plan the crap out of this trip and then I'd get a BFP.

But who am I kidding, I'm never gonna get knocked up, so like it freaking matters anyway. *pouts*

HEY! You listen here lady. I may be about to fall asleep on this computer but we don't listen to that kind of negativity in my house. You are going to, you will be, so THERE.

  • LOL, ok, sorry.

And since it's now 3:15 here and you're going into a medically induced coma, goodnight.  I'm glad one of us will be able to sleep tonight, even though you cheated and used drugs.  *giggles*

  • LoL, take solace in knowing that if not for the medicine, I'd be right there with you. In my defense, I didn't sleep last night and shopped for 6 hours today!

    I am pumped. WAY pumped.

*hugs and ass slaps* We shall continue the planning after I sleep for 200 hours :)
