Re: Help TTSAL project sewing machine

  • what exactly is it doing? if it is a more manual one (ie not completely computerized) I might be able to help you....I can't help you on machine recommendations, I inherited a 1977 Viking that is still going strong! what machine does your mom have? I won't be on much until later, I'm at work until 6pm, but you could call me later if you wanted?

  • its a Singer.... its the same prob as b4... the tension  its bunching up like crazy and i cant figure out why... I even did the recommendation settings for the straight stitch and it is still bunching up and getting caught and pulled into the bottom of the sewing machine... then i have to rip and cut it out cause its eating up so much of my GOOD thread

::::sigh::::   Ive tried everything...idk why it wont stop it

  • did you adjust the upper thread tension? that is usually the one they tell you to adjust, but the lower thread tension can also go bad...that was my problem last night!

Are you sure you have the right weight thread for the fabric-that can also cause the tension to go haywire?

Also is the needle installed correctly, that can also cause problems that look like tension issues.

There are other causes, but without my book (it's at home) that is all I can remember right now!

Ughhhhh..... plus idk what i am doing.... I haven't sewn in 4 yrs!!
  • ok....sounds like you have tried all the obvious things....the only thing I don't know is about the number of layers you are sewing and the heavy fabric....and then matching that to the thread, but my guess is that heavy duty thread would work, but I haven't tried that recently.  Have you tried sewing just two pieces of cotton and seeing if that works with regular cotton....that would give you an idea if something is wrong with the machine, or with the specific combination of fabric and threads that you are using?

  • yeah i had too extra pieces and have been testing it on them... FAIL... lol... I think I am going to try and change the thread to reg weight and see what happens
  • let me know what it does with regular cotton and regular thread...and then I'll see if I have some more suggestions!!

  • ok for some reason when i go to loop the bobbin thread to come up through my top thread is getting caught and then bunching up when the material is on it..... shiit.... i noticed the bobbin holder is getting jammed and not laying right... oh yeah!!!!
