Night time routine

1.  At what age did you start a night time routine with your LO?

2.  What is your night time routine?

3.  At what time do you start your night time routine?

Thanks so much for the input.  I know my LO is on the young side for this, but I thought to start trying and get it going so that when it works, DH and I will at least have the routine figured out.

Re: Night time routine

  • How old is your LO?

  • Started at 2mos,  he started to show signs of being tired around 9pm/930 so we have started the routine for 9pm OR when he is starting to show signs of being sleepy, sometimes is 8pm/830.

Routine: Shower with daddy, then I get him out, dry him, sing, baby massage, get dressed, feed him. He either passes out on the boob and we just wait a while then put him in bed or he is on the verge of sleepiness so we rock him for maybe ten minutes and he goes down. If something stirs up the routine like going out he usually falls asleep in the car seat which messes it up because he wakes up when we get home (later then usual) and it will be too late to do the routine and he has alot of trouble sleeping.

That's what I'm not looking forward to once we start having a real routine...

  • My son has decided bedtime is ~11pm and he falls asleep in that neighborhood whether we do anything special or not. We occasionally give him a baby massage at about 10:45pm but that's it for routine. We don't bathe every day because of the possibility of drying out his skin.

He sleeps pretty well too so a routine really isn't necessary IMO.

  • I started at 2 mths also to try a routine so that wr would have it down by the time I went to work. 9/9:30p take a bath, lotion, then bottle. We have to turn the lights in the room off before she'll really go to bed. I don't think it's ever too early to start a routine, it sure makes your life easier.
  • We started around 2 months.

She gets a bath at 6:30 (about 10 mins), then lotion and pj's, we read the same book every night, then she gets a 1oz warm bottle (for her zantac), and then I nurse her  to sleep.  She is usually out around 7 to 7:15.

When we started the routine, we did bath time at 8, but realized it was too late for DD, She would stay up until 1 or 2 in the morning, baths used to revive her now they make her sleepy!  I also read an article that the latest a DC should go to sleep was 8:00 (I can't find it right now), so we adjusted and it has worked great of us!  She isn't STTN, we EBF, but she is asleep early enough that I have time to clean up after dinner, bump, and spend time with DH watching our favorite shows!

  • We generally bathe every other night so on those nights anytime between 6:30 and 7:45 p.m. we have a bath, get dressed in pj's with a light massage, then go into the room, listening to lullaby music, and nurse for as long as possible (up to 45 minutes). Once he's done, either asleep or not, goes to bed (typically this is by 9) and then he's out until anytime between 5 and 7.
