Anyone else's LO not sleeping in crib?

My DS is now 6 1/2 weeks old, and he does not sleep in his crib.  Actually he's not sleeping much at night at all. Currently, he sleeps in his bouncer on our bed between us.  He sometimes sleeps on my or DH's chest after eating.  I've tried putting him in his crib when he starts to get sleepy but he will not shut his eyes in his crib.  Eventually, he'll just start screaming.  He'll lay in there and look around for a few minutes, but that's it.  I want to try getting him into the habit of sleeping in his crib.  Please tell me we're not the only ones going through this.....

  • Mine sleeps in our bed or her pack n play next to the bed. I feed her in the side lying position when she wakes up at night and she falls right back to sleep.

    Are you BFing or FFing?

  • My son does not sleep in his crib or cradle.  Once in a while I can get him to sleep on his boppy in the pack 'n play.  He usually sleeps in his swing or on me.
  • i'm pumping exclusively

  • We just moved our son to the crib last week. It took a full week for him to adjust. I would for now put him in the crib once he is fully asleep, dont try for drowsy and awake yet. Also, try adjusting the height on the crib because my son used to hate the feeling of us putting him all the way in the crib because it was so low (he felt like he was falling as we layed him down I think). Just keep trying over and over be persistent. Putting him in the crib for naps to get him used to it is good too. If you dont want to transition to the crib yet dont feel you have to.

BTW how can he sleep in a boucer IN your bed? Wouldnt the softness of the bed make the bouncer wobbly and isnt that quite high up above your heads?

  • Just try and keep it as quiet as possible when you feed at night and put him in his crib after he's been asleep for a while. Mine will sleep in her crib/pack n play if shes been asleep for a little while. If she has just fallen asleep, she'll wake right up when put down.

  • We don't, but we don't want her to sleep in the crib yet. Public Health says our son should sleep in our room for 6 months. He sleeps in a bassinet or a PnP depending which floor of the house he is on.
  • DD sleeps in her PnP, swing chair (it comes off the swing to be an infant seat) and sometimes her crib.  But mostly she sleeps in the room with us for now.
  • My 8 week old DS sleeps in his swing all night. He usually only wakes up once. We tried to put him in the cosleeper the other night and he woke up after an hour. Sleep is my goal right now so I'm doing what works!
  • She was sleeping in her crib for a few weeks, but suddenly stopped sleeping when in there. Since then, she's been in her swing in the day (naps), and in her stroller in the night. We think she likes to feel more cozy, and that the crib is just to big for her right now. We're getting a pack and play (playpen) with a bassinette, and hopefully she'll sleep in that, sort of transitioning to the crib from the stroller.

  • For 2-3 hour sleeps DD is fine in the swing.  But for the late night sleeping she won't sleep anywhere but with us.  So right now we're bed-sharing.

  • Our LO sleeps in his PNP at night (in our room).  During the day he naps in his swing or the PNP.  We tried the crib for naps during the day but he finds it too big and too isolated.  He likes to be near people.
  • Katie has been sleeping in her PnP until just recently.  Now all she wants to do is sleep on me or be held.  If I put her down in her PnP she lasts about a minute and then starts to scream.  I went against a lot of my friends opinions and bought one of those snuggle nests that you put in the middle of your bed.  Everyone thinks that I should let her cry it out...but she's only 6 weeks old, I think that's too young to do that.  However the other night I was up until 4:30am with her, she was refusing to sleep by herself.  I finally gave up and brought her into bed with us.
  • ds sleeps in his cradle in our room. We don't plan on putting him in his crib until he's at least 6-8 wks old. Unless he suddenly gets to big to use the cradle then we're move him to his crib.

  • Our LO (7 weeks) sleeps in her bassinet next to our bed.   We won't attempt the crib until 4 mos at least, although we do like to have her spend some time in there occasionally so she's familiar with it.
  • DD sleeps in the bassinet in the nursery.  I'm slowly trying to get her used to the crib, but I'm not super concerned with getting her in there asap ...
  • My son wouldnt sleep in his pack n play or crib at first so we got a secure sleeper, and let him sleep in the bed with us.  I did this from the time he was three weeks until 7 weeks and then moved the secure sleeper to the pack n play.  I think he liked being so close to us, and got used to the sleeper, so when i moved him in the sleeper to the pack n play it wasnt a completely new environment.

Also i still have the pack n play in the room with us but not right next to the bed. I figure i can eventually switch like i did with the pnp and take him out of the secure sleeper but still have him in the pnp. That way when he is 6 months (or whenever I feel able to not have him right there lol) I can move him to the crib in the other room and he is used to not being "on his own".

  • LO sleeps in his PNP. I'm not comfortable putting him in the crib until I can get a breathable bumper and that's going to have to wait until next paycheck.

  • You are not alone-DD does the same thing so just do what works for you and remember they are still fetuses until 12 wks old. Some (like mine) want to sleep in our arms and not be alone.

  • She pretty much only sleeps in the swing in our room.  I tried to put her in her crib last Friday night and she slept for about 30 mins.  Our first DD slept in our room until about 3.5 months.  I'm not worried about it until closer to 4 months.  I agree sleep is most important at this point!

  • I always hit the 0-6 monoth board and wind up on the 0-3 month board......I didn't start putting DD in her crib until right around 3 1/2 months.  I BF and I always kept her next to us in her cradle, and would pull her over in the night to side nurse her.  I did always put her back in her cradle (too afraid of smothering her, and too worried to keep her their!)  She started STTN at 2 months (9weeks) and just fell asleep on her own when I put her in her cradle.  STTN at this point is only 6 hours, so we went about 1030-4 in her cradle.  I would give it a little longer and still put LO in a bassinette or cradle, or sleep next to you.  Eventually she will sleep longer and  in her crib.  1st time I put DD in it, she LOVED it!!  but they have to get used to sleeping by themselves and in longer intervals.  She is sleeping 8-12 hours at night now, in her crib.
  • Right now DD sleeps almost exclusively in her bouncy seat or in someone's arms.  She doesn't stay asleep in the bassinet, pack n play or her crib yet.
