Miscarriage/Pregnancy Loss

Why did I go to the doctor?

Biggest waste of my time and I am furious. No exam, no bloodwork. It was a 5 minute chat. I asked why no exam and no BW and he said it was not necessary unless I was having problems. Well, then why didn't I just tell a nurse over the phone that I was doing just fine. I told him about my weird pain during bowel movements and he told me to eat bran flakes. WTF?! I am not constipated, I eat lots of fresh fruits and veggies and high fiber foods and drink lots of water. The nurses were so not compassionate. I will be finding a new doctor next time around. I also apologize for the lack of paragraphs. I am posting from my BB.

Re: Why did I go to the doctor?

  • Wow.  That's crazy.  I'm sorry that your doctor's "follow up" wasn't really anything.  He should know that he could have just talked to you on the phone for 5 minutes without wasting your time.

  • I'm so sorry. I was hoping your appointment would have gone well :(
  • I would fine a new doctor now! That is awful!
  • Sorry you had a bad experience. I think some doctors have you come in just so they can collect a copay and insurance money and it sucks.

I was going to say the same thing.  I had a similar experience.....and all I could think of was ching---ching----as I walked out of the office.

  • Yeah, I think you're right on target with the new doc idea.  I haven't had my f/u yet, but was told they would likely do an u/s and would def do b/w.  I can't believe they wouldn't want to make sure your HCG level is either zero or declining.  I'm sorry this wasn't a helpful visit for you and I hope you find someone better soon.

  • My doctor didn't even want me to come back for a follow-up, he said no ultrasound, no hcg test.  However, I demanded for the hcg test and an ultrasound.  Guess what, I'm 9 weeks post-op and I still have hcg in my body, it's scary and frustrating.  I asked the nurse if there is any case with slow dropping hcg like mine, she said that the doctor never ordered hcg test so she doesn't know.

I'm upset and I totally understand why you are upset.

  • Wow!  I had my m/c one week ago.  Was in the ER, had an hcg, it was only 35..nothing on ultrasound...followed up with my OB this past Monday.  Was told my repeat beta drawn on Saturday was 27. The Physician's Assistant(who herself was pregnant) sat down and spoke with me for a good 10 minutes. I'm new to their practice.  Yesterday in the mail, I got a patient satisfaction survey and a $15 gift certificate to a local day spa!

Think if I were you, I'd find a new OB.

  • At least the visit was covered under the copay I paid for the pregnancy, but I am sure they will be collecting plenty from my insurance. I will be writing a letter, a review on any site I can find and of course finding a new doctor. I am still furious the next day! DH took me out for dinner and a few stiff drinks last night, so that calmed me down...and fast. It has been quite q while since I had more than a small glass of wine. :) I think making a stink will be even more therapeutic.

  • wow yeah what was the point of having you come in? I didn't have an u/s at the f/u appt but there was an internal exam and we had a chat for awhile in the dr's office about the testing done.

I had that weird bowel movement thing too but didn't bring it up because it went away...seems a lot of ladies on here have complained about it...

Thank you for sharing that. I was worried and so annoyed that he just brushed it off. I feel much better to know others have had similar issues.
