Heartbeat and gender

Does anyone know if there is any validly with the the correlation between gender and heartbeat?  I believe the old wives tail is that a heartbeat of 160 is a boy and 140 is a girl.

LO heartbeat keeps on being 150...so I guess I will be guessing for a few more weeks!

Re: Heartbeat and gender

  • It's an old wives' tale, really.  Add it to the cravings, drano test, and wedding ring tests.

It's opposite. They say over 140 is typically a girl and less than 140 is usually a boy. There's no scientific proof that it's true, but it was true in our case. Our LO's heartbeat was 180 the first time we heard it and 148 when we found out it was a girl.

  • 148 - Girl  here

But I doubt the OWT still

  • OWT.  Our LO's h/b was over 150 every single time up to the BIG u/s (it was 143 that time).  I really thought it was a girl.... DH swore it was a boy.

    DH was right.

  • It is an OWT.  I did have a friend tell me it is accurate but very late in your pregnancy.  She said if you did not know the gender, you might be able to tell based on heartrate the day of delivery.

The OWT was accurate for me, 140 = girl.

  • Dr said it is not true. He said bigger things have lower heart rates, and smaller higher. So early on the heart rate is high and then it drops as the baby grows.

  • 1st HB- 176

    2nd tme hearing- 160

    We're having a girl

  • OWT...DS's hb has been between 145-160 every time.
  • The old wives tale is over 140 a girl, under a boy. my little one's has always been around a 150-160 range, and we are having a girl so it checked out. but my SIL had the same heartbeat and she had a little boy. ... you got a 50/50 chance =P
  • I've also heard it's an old wives tale but all 3 of the mothers I've talked to about it swear that ours is a girl based on the heartbeat.

We were at 182 at 9 1/2 weeks.  160 plus at 14 weeks.

For all of them, their girls were 160+, and their boys at around 140.

SO: I'm still keeping my fingers crossed for a girl.  ;)

  • Completely an old wives tale. I've heard high=girl and low=boy. LO was 173 at 9 weeks and 167 at 13 weeks and he is definitely a boy. Based on other posts the heartrate and sex is completely random and runs the spectrum.

This. The OWT is >140 = girl, <140 is boy.

The hb decreases as baby grows. Ours was 165 at 12 weeks, 160 at 13weeks, 158 at 14 weeks, 150 at 16 weeks and 145 at 19 weeks. In a couple weeks, it may be 135.

However, we are having a girl.

  • Ours was 135 at 19 weeks. :)

  • Heartrate has nothing to do with the sex of the baby.

My baby's heartrate has been 160 everytime I have gone to the doctor. And I just got my big ultrasound, and it's a boy.

Wives' tails are just that. They have nothing to do with the actual truth. But they have a 50% chance of being wrong.
