    If I use store bought icing, I will heat it up in the microwave to make it a little runny then drizle it

    or I will make my own icing and make it thinner than normal.

  • Yes, unless you want it to melt and puddle at the bottom of the cake, and then be absorbed by the cake.

  • I remember seeing an episode of America's Test Kitchen and they drizzled it while it was warm and again after it was cooled. They said it was yummy to let the icing absorb into the cake but you needed to re-drizzle in order for it too look nice.
