Dropping naps

DS seems reluctant to sleep mid morning for the past several days. This is fine of course. I offer him the opportunity around when he generally would take it and when he doesn't fall asleep we move on with our day. He still LOVES his aftenoon nap. My question is when did your LO start dropping a nap specifically the morning nap?

Re: Dropping naps

  • Mine went through a phase exactly like that around 8ish months, and then she went back to taking the morning nap, but it started a little bit later and was a little bit shorter. She did maybe a week or two with no morning nap, I think. And she's just now coming off another no-nap phase with the same result -- her morning nap moved a little later and became a little shorter. I think she'll keep doing that periodically until she merges the two naps, but she's not ready to drop it completely yet.

  • Kiddo has always had weird nap habits - sometimes he takes a nap an hour after he gets up and other times he won't nap no matter what I try.  My problem is I always worry that he won't nap because he's overtired, not because he doesn't need it.

I'd say go with the flow.  It seems early to drop to one nap but he might just be in a weird phase.  If he seems happy and is getting enough sleep overall I don't see the point in fighting to get two naps out of him.

  • we had a similar problem - she'd nurse to sleep okay but then it was a suuuper short nap.  i kept her up longer in the morning and now it's working well again.  we just had to adjust to a new schedule where her awake-periods were longer.  you could try that?  i keep hearing they really shouldn't drop to one nap till after the first year, but every baby is different, good luck!!
