Freezing milk after it's been refrigerated for 5 days

Can you freeze your milk after it's been in the refrigerator for 5 days? if i dont it will go to waste, unless i feed it to him and then pump what he ate - but i kinda like breast feeding him and only using the other milk for emergency and to bring my supply up. thx

  • Well, refrigerated milk is good for 8 days - so you have a few days left.  So I would freeze it but don't leave it in there for more than 1 -2 months if a regular freezer.

  • The info from my doctor and pediatrician says not to freeze milk after it has been in the fridge for more than 2 days.  Not sure why, but I follow it.  I just freeze everything now.  It doesn't take long to defrost when needed.  Just run it under warm tap water or in a pot of warm water.

wow 2 days? that is such a short time.  i do 4-5 days and then freeze and have had no problems. my freezer keeps the milk good for about 4 months as well.

is there a way to see if the milk is bad? i plan on never tasting it -can you tell by the smell, as of now my milk smells like absolutely nothing.
