You could always go the random route and give him a nn that has nothing to do with his actual name.
One side of my mom's family all go by nicknames. Their nn's have nothing to do with their real names. Weird thing is that their nn's are actual names...not just shortened versions of something else. There are a lot of people who don't even know that they are using a nickname.
Yes I agree with you, op. Harry is a terrible nn! Kids will call him names that start with hairy.
