Has anyone had vertigo?

Okay I promise I am not a hypochondriac. DH is but I am not. Here's the deal. The last few days, I have been feeling weird. I can't describe it. It feels like one side of my head is a little heavier than the other...sort of a dizzy (yet not) feeling. Seriously, I just can't explain it.

So my first thought was that I need new contacts. It's been a year and a half and my vision is pretty blurry when I cover one eye. So I made an appt with the eye doc tomorrow morning. But then, DH starts freaking out that something might be seriously wrong and he made me go see my PCP (hey bud, thanks for calming my fears!). So this afternoon, I saw the PCP. He said I seem fine (how he could tell that by shining a light in my eyes is beyond me) and told me that it was probably the contacts (I shouldn't have tipped him off- maybe he would have investigated more!). He also told me it could be my new meds (for PPD). I just upped the dosage this week so he felt it could be that. He wrote me a script for the lower dosage so we are going to try that.

Anyway (LONGEST POST EVAH!), tonight I remembered my mom telling me that my exhusband recently had vertigo. I called him and explained how I was feeling. He said his vertigo started the same way then he got flu-like symptoms a few days later then a few days after that, his ears started ringing.

He told me that he hopes I don't have vertigo. I told him it was much better than the alternative that I have been worried about all day (irrational fears, etc). I hope to figure out what's going on soon because I am a bit scared (even though it's probably irrational, as I said). Life changes so much after you give birth. You just have such an amazing reason to live and desperately want to see your child grow up, etc.

If you made it to the end of this, do you want to be my BFF? Because anyone who read this all the way through is amazing. :) Sorry this was so long!

UPDATE: I just googled Wellbutrin and dizziness. It's a side effect. Hopefully that's all it is and switching back to the 150mg will alleviate the side effect.

Re: Has anyone had vertigo?

  • I had a virus that caused vertigo. It was horrible and hysterical at the same time. I was sick with a bad cold. That part wasn't bad. The bad part was laying in bed, gripping the bedsheets, telling myself over and over that I was in fact, not spinning... And also thinking - this is crazy...

It felt like when I was playing on the beach as a kid and got caught in a wave and rolled with it.

  • Just about 1.5 y ago I had vertigo secondary to a terrible sinusitis. Ick. It was terrible. All I could do was lay there. Literally. I even had trouble making the 15 foot walk to the bathroom by myself. I hope you don't have it.

  • I've had vertigo twice?the first time was almost 10 years ago during a much-anticipated vacation in Australia (for my 30th birthday). I was on a tour (Cosmos) and the long flight and the bumpy tour buses gave me major vertigo. I had to go to the ER while on my trip to get anti-nausea meds and other drugs.

I constantly felt like I was on a boat. Actually the only time I felt OK was when I WAS on a boat?Great Barrier Reef and Sydney Harbour tour.

It took weeks to go away.  And I can get flare ups whenever I'm in a bus on bumpy roads. Last time was 3 years ago from a day trip from Las Vegas to the Grand Canyon (as in a FULL day) but I recovered more quickly from that.

I hope it's just a side effect from the Wellbutrin. Vertigo sucks.

  • My mom had some "debris" get in the fluid that is in your ear to help you stay balanced. She was so dizzy for awhile, maybe 4-5 days and then it passed. At first though they took her to the ER because she felt so bad she thought she was having a heart attack.
  • Never had it but I hope it is just a side of effect of your meds. I hope you feel better and enjoy the holiday!
  • Ok, I read it ALL, now do I get to be your BFF?  I am fairly sure your vertigot is a side effects of the meds.  I was on effexor for a while and had all sorts of weird side effects.  It got so bad for me that I had to come off of it, and still had side effects for weeks afterward.  I hope your don't have to deal with that.

  • I did have it but it wasn't related to medicine.  I had a really bad cold, and everytime I blew my nose I felt dizzy and the room would spin and I wasn't able to focus.  I hope it's related to the meds your taking and also let your PCP know.
  • I had vertigo after I had two surgeries within a month. it sucked. i couldn't lay flat because everything would spin and my limbs would go numb. I vomitted everything i ate. i couldn't stand at all without help and even needed someone to hold me up on the toilet so that i could pee. it sucked!!!!!!!

A few years ago, when i realized that my marriage was over, i went on Wellbutrin. I was okay on the lower dosage but when they increased it, I was a mess. I felt stupidly high (dizzy and loopy) and manic which caused me to be more antisocial than usual. I also began to shake all the time. I took myself off and felt better in a few weeks. I decided being depressed was better than what that drug did to me.

  • I had an inner-ear infection a few years ago and had vertigo from that--it was crazy.

What you're describing sounds more like a side-effect.  A lot of people do very well on less than what a doc would consider the "normal therapeutic dose" of a given medication.  Hopefully cutting the dosage back a bit will help.  Good luck!

  • HOORAY! I woke up with an earache. Doc just called in an antibiotic. I am so relieved!

    Thanks ladies :)

  • I am so happy it was just an earache!
