Preemies

This made me sad...

I talked to and one of the boys' primary nurse today and she told me that they have had an influx of really really sick preemies lately and many of them did not make it. As much as I wish our boys' weren't born so early, at least we have them. Really put things in perspective for me and made me even more thankful. Please pray for parents and preemies everywhere. I for one will be hugging my LOs extra tight tonight.

  • That is sad.  After Campbell went home, our favorite primary experienced her first death of a primary on her shift.  She was devastated.  I think we often forget those nurses get attached, too.
  • Sooo sad.  I agree, it truly put things in perspective.  I know when we were in the NICU we had a similar experience. Our LO looked just huge (at 4 lbs) in comparison to the "summer crew" which the nurses called the babies that were born early in the year and would be there alllll summer long.  so sad indeed.

My friend in a NICU nurse in tx and she often has feeling sad or praying for a family as her staus...and it always has to do with her job.

  • Indeed.

one of the nurses we were really hoping would be our primary said she stopped primarying because she gets so attached and then the kids get really sick and/or die and she just had to stop for her own sanity. She said her husband almost insisted on it because she was taking it home a lot.

I know I'd be the same way. I can't leave it behind. Hell, I still wonder about some of the other NICU families we were with but didn't keep in contact with.
