Have any of you ever washed your diapers in a public/shared machine? We're going to the beach this weekend and I don't have enough diapers to make it through the weekend. DH says we should just use what we have, and use disposables (note I didn't say sposie ECU) until we get back. But I'm thinking maybe I should just wash them there.
The problem is that the complex has a shared coin machine. It's a regular old washing machine, not one like you find at a laundrymat. I'm just not sure A) what kind of routine I should use, what others might think of diapers in a shared machine, and C) anything in the machine or dryer affecting my diapers. If I don't wash them there, I'll be going from Tuesday till Sunday without washing, and I think my diapers will be rancid by then!
Thoughts? Suggestions?
Re: CD washing question
Oh, and the other option would be to use disposables for the first day or so, and then use CDs Thursday-Sunday, so the dirties won't have to sit as long without being washed. I have 20-ish diapers. Which is about 3.5 days worth. I plan on washing tonight regardless.
I would go with your 2nd option...disposables first & then your CD. I would worry about washing in public machines b/c of the residue of other detergents & fabric softeners. I certainly wouldn't want my diapers to sit that long w/o being washed either - yuck!
personally i'd just use disposables while you are gone so you don't have to deal with washing the diapers in a foreign machine. but i also don't cd so maybe i'm a bit biased lol.
eta - just saw your 2nd post, that would also be a good option as well! so whichever you think would be eaiser is what i would do.
We did this last time and I honestly have to say using all those disposables made my stomach turn. I know he's in them all day at daycare, but I vowed to not do that again on vacation again if at all possible. I guess when you're the one throwing them away one by one, you really see the effects of it.
