Parenting after 35

No real point here, just minutia...

I had my 6 week postpartum checkup at 8, all is well.  The doctor said if we want another, we are approved and encouraged to do it in six months.

My father-in-law is coming in today from France, he's staying for two weeks.  Looks like I get to refresh my French, and at high volume because he doesn't hear very well.

As I sit and eat my breakfast, I have Margaux on one side, alternating between sleeping and being seriously gassy, and a growing pile of drinking straws and twigs on the other.  My cat Betelnut keeps bringing them to me and dropping them on the couch.  Freak.

I've been getting weird little stabby pains in my right nipple all morning.  I hope it's not another clogged duct!

I hope I can find a turkey today!  I thought it might be fun to do US Thanksgiving this year while my husband's father is around.  He's never been to North America before.  My husband has already invited a couple of friends, and I don't even know if I can find the turkey...  Eep.

When Margaux sleeps in her little grobag thing, she's plenty warm except for her hands.  Her hands get ICE cold.  Is that normal?

Okay, enough babbling, back to my oatmeal.  I hope everyone's having a good day!

Mornin' Peppernut! I'm not sure if the warm body/freezing hands thing is normal, but Mikey's the same way. Doesn't seem to bother him but I haaate it.

I wish you luck finding a turkey, but wasn't Thanksgiving more than a month ago up where you are?

And about Thanksgiving, I got all the ingredients for the stuffing and pumpkin cheesecake I'm making to take to my mom's, plus I've got stuff to make sweet potato pie and green bean casserole in case I need back-ups.

  • The visual of the cat bringing you straws and twigs made me smile.

Aaron gets super cold hands, too. And his ears! But I guess he's OK. And, besides, he sucks his thumbs and needs his hands out otherwise he fusses.

Glad you're doing well, Amy, and Miss Margaux, too.

  • Oh, good, it's not just me wondering about the hands.

Stever - Yeah, it was a month ago, but I figured since I'm a US citizen I'm allowed to have my turkey day late if there's a good reason.  ;)

Edited to add: Oh, good, another drinking straw.  Where does she find these?

Good thinking. We lived in Vancouver for 3.5 years and I love, love, loved having 2 Thanksgivings!

We always have 2 Thanksgivings! We used to do a huge Canadian Thanksgiving dinner for 40, but not since babies.

Liam's hands and arms always freeze.

Je vous souhaite une bonne visite avec le pere de ton mari. Il va adorer Margaux!! (I'm sure I butchered that, but I don't get much of a chance to speak French in Denver).

Isn't "pere de ton mari"  beau pere? Could be something different in Quebecoise, but I think that's it in French French... I think. Hmmmm

  • Two weeks with FIL? Is that a good thing? Glad all is well miss Amy :)
  • Weird cat.

    Good luck with the french.

    Good night.

  • I just have to chime in with a note that Ms. Margeaux's picture in your sig is so cute I can't help but stare at her.

"Cold hands = warm heart" I worry about Brigid's hands being cold too but as far as my googling tells me it is simply due to immature circulatory systems.

    Happy Turkey Day.

  • Oh, he's super-nice, but naturally my husband tends to bicker with him.

My French is pretty awful, considering I live in a francophone place and married into a French family.  I'm not sure whether his "official" title is beau pere, but he's happy to finally go by "Papi."  :)

I found a turkey,  yay!  I've got it brining, and I have some cornbread stuffing and homemade orange-cranberry sauce ready to go, too.  I even made some fresh gingerbread!  I'm all excited.

D'y'all think we should put little mittens on her when she sleeps?
