NPR: If you live in Florida ...

Would you use a fleece blanket??

I'm trying to come up with something I can make for my brother, who recently moved to FL. I was thinking either a fleece blanket with the logo of his alma mater or a pair of pj pants. My mom says, "People who live in FL don't have much use for fleece blankets." Right or wrong??

Re: NPR: If you live in Florida ...

  • I don't but my parents do (in South Florida) When it gets into the high 60s they have the fireplace going, sweatpants, fleece jackets, my dad wears gloves to golf...it is ridiculous. Needless to say they only visit me here in the summer :)  They would totally use a fleece blanket  - if it is under 85 they are cold.

  • Where in FL is he?  I'm sure he could use either.  I know those that have lived here forever or for a very long time pull out the winter hats, gloves, and winter coats when it hits about 65 degrees.  To me that's still jeans and t-shirt weather (I figure anytime I can wear pants without sweating to death is perfect jeans weather).  :)

So while someone from a northern state may think it's tshirt and shorts weather when they come on vacation, there  would be quite a few floridians with their winter gear on.

  • He's in Jacksonville. And he just moved there from MN in August.
  • That's where I am.  :)  I moved from WI a few years ago.  I think either would still work.  He probably won't be cold yet down here for the most part, but we do get some days where it hits the 30s overnight/in the mornings.

That would be me that she's talking about ;)

I was using my fleece blanket all last week when it was in the upper 60's at night.
  • Yes, she is one of "those people" that I'm talking about.  We went to the zoo when it was about 65 degrees,  All bundled up in her winter coats and gear while I had myself and my kid in pants and a t-shirt.  :)  You know I love you though Mommynow.  Well as a friend.  :)

  • i'd go with the blanket. i don't know many men that wear pajamas but im sure you know your brother better. Jax gets a lot colder than it does here in Tampoon. the blanket is a nice idea!

  • I thought when we made the move to south florida from north florida we would never need sweatpants and blankets, but like a pp said, it gets 60 and we are freezing because we are used to it being almost 100.  I think its a nice gift.
  • I live in Michigan and when I go down there (Deltona...which is just north of Orlando) in the winter I wear a jacket!  If I were in Jacksonville...which to me is downright cold in the winter...I'd definitely use a fleece blanket plus pj pants a lot.
