Dairy Sensitivity

My baby seems to be sensitive to dairy and caffeine (caffeine is easier to cut out, since I just don't drink caffeinated beverages and cut out chocolate) but with dairy is a little harder (it's everywhere and in everything!).

So here is my question- could I still drink Lactose-free milk or will it still affect her? I miss milk (and calcium!)

She spit up like crazy this weekend and nothing helped (not even Zantac) but cutting out dairy and caffeine seemed to help.

TIA for the advice!

Re: Dairy Sensitivity

  • Mine has different symptoms (she doesn't spit up; her colon just bleeds), but she has a dairy and soy sensitivity. From what I understand, it's the milk protein (not the lactose) that causes problems. So Lactaid is out (for me at least).

I've been using vanilla rice milk in my oatmeal and chewing lots of tums for calcium.

    Good luck!

  • Yeah, I tried almond milk and it just doesn't taste the same...

oh well- i'd rather have a happy baby that doesn't spit up the entire meal than have my milk....

  • So it wasn't just the fact I over-fed her? Poor baby. :( Maybe your pedi can recommend some things to do and can give you some pointers that can help both of you guys! :)

  • You could always try goat milk.  That's what Savannah has to drink.  But I'll warn you, it's a very different taste.  I don't like it.

I haven't tried the milk yet, but I do get goat butter and goat cheese (I found a cheddar). They aren't cheap but I really like them.

  • Nope, b/c she still kept spitting up on Sat AND Sun.....

She is better today, but I am SOOO kicking myself for having that de-caf Creme Brulee coffee from Starbucks!  (it was SOOO gooood though!) and I had a slice or two of cheddar from a cheese platter my husband brought home.

My Self control when it comes to food SUCKS!
