Miscarriage/Pregnancy Loss

After your D&C...

How was your recovery? (physically) How soon did you start exercising at a normal rate?

I had mine on 11/18 and today is the first day I've had zero bleeding. I've only had minimal cramps here and there since Wednesday.

I know the bleeding can still come back but I'm really hoping it doesn't. Of course I plan on calling my doctor about the exercise but I ask because I am VERY eager to get back on a good fitness plan so I can be that much healthier and lose some weight for my next pregnancy. I have been offered a smokin deal on a month long bootcamp starting next Monday which I really want to do.

I'm not sure I have a specific question here, just looking for some personal experiences I guess! :)

  • I had my D&E on 11/18.  I haven't gotten back into my normal workout routine yet, mostly because everything is still packed, but I plan to soon.  My doctor said I could get back to normal activities after just a few days.  I've been moving boxes and painting all weekend and it's been just fine...almost as good as my regular workout routine.

  • I had my d&c on 10/30. I bled for a little less than a week, and the pain was mostly in my ladybits this time. I was told I could do light workouts (ha, I don't work out, silly doc) but that he wanted me to wait to do anything like yoga until he had seen me for my post-op check up two weeks later. Something about the twisting and the inverted positions.
  • After my D&C, I was told it was ok to do some light physical activity (like walking) but to avoid lifting weights, and any strenous activity until after my two week follow-up. He did also mention yoga and pilates specifically, to be avoided. Sorry :(

  • Similar to the other posters. I was told to hold off on running, strenuous cardio, yoga, etc., until my post op follow up.

I did some light walking in the interim and just finally felt motivated enough to go for a run about 16 days after the fact.

  • I had my d&c the same day as you, and I'm still spotting and cramping (I've been having wicked lower back aches the last two days, too).

If my back feels up to it, I'll probably go to the gym on Wed and just work out on the elliptical, but I'm saving yoga and strength training with my trainer until after my f/u appointment.

  • First.... I am so sorry for your loss... It makes me so sad to see ladies from GP in here.

Second.... my D&C was on 10/9.  I was done bleeding/spotting about a week or so later.  I have not spotted since.  I was phyisically fine after that.

  • I had an induction, and didn't have to have a D&C, but my dr said I could go back to working out right away. I went to the gym 2 days later. It wasn't the most comfortable thing to  do, but I did ok. Hopefully your dr will approve you going too! it has been the best thing for me!
  • I am sorry for your loss.  I was back in the gym about three days later. I think its great that you are motivated to exercise.  I found that my workouts provided a healthy release for the emotional rollercoaster I had gone through.  I hope you too will enjoy the escape. Get your sweat on!!!!
