We are naming our daughter Adeline Elizabeth and planned on calling her Addie for short. My friend pointed out that she thought it was weird to add a "d" to her nickname when it's not their in her real name. But I think Addeline looks weird. WDYT?

I'm with you... Adeline is good and I don't see anything wrong with Addie. Its just like girls named Alison that go by Allie or Madeline going by Maddie or Maddy

Spell it the way you have it.  I know several Alisons who go by Alley or Allie... It's not weird at all.

I don't think it's necessary to add another 'd' to the name. Lots of people call Abigails "Abby" or Gabrielles "Gabby" without adding an additional letter to the full name.

Hmm That is a tough one.  People who call their DD Maddy from Madeline add an extra "d" and I have never heard any complaints. 

We are thinking of Cadence for our DD, but have the opposite problem.  A friend sent a card and added a D to her NN making it Caddy.  (Like in golf...)

It's a nickname. It's intended to be a little different than the real name.

I think your friend is nuts. There are a million nicknames that are spelled slightly differently than the original name. Just look at Elizabeth, for one example. There's Ellie, Liz, Beth, Betsy, etc., etc.

I don't think it's weird at all. When that name (and nick-name) was on our list, we would have spelled the names the same way. How is that different than "Madelines" (or Madisons) becoming "Maddies". Or John- Johnny, Emily- Emmy, Thomas-Tommy, etc. I also agree that Addeline looks a little funny. GL!

I like Adeline Elizabeth is very pretty! Calling her Addie for short would not be weird at all. There are plenty of nicknames that don't have the letters exactly like the full name. Plus, I definitely prefer Adeline to Addeline.
