Need help re: babywearing men

DH uses the Baby Bjorn. He admits that it is uncomfortable, but keeps using it. I use a woven or mei tai, but he thinks they are too "girly". So I was considering getting a carrier for him for x-mas. What does your hubby use? What is the most "masculine" option? Ergo? I realize this post is not PC - I hope that I'm not offending anyone!

Re: Need help re: babywearing men

  • Well, lots of us have babywearing daddies in our siggies at the moment so that might help ;-)

DH uses my wraps around the house but is afraid to do a back carry with them on his own.  We have a babyhawk (they have some very daddy friendly prints) that he just learned today he could get a back carry in on his own.  I'm looking for a wrap conversion mei tai for him now.  The ergo is definitely daddy friendly as well.  And if he likes the bjorn, he may be most comfortable with the buckles of the ergo or another soft structured carrier.

  • I let my DH design his own babyhawk, but I would vote ergo if its going to be a surprise.

I love the siggies! That is why I feel silly about this post! Even though I think your hubbies look awesome (nothing more manly in my eyes than a man loving his baby!) but unfortunately my hubby doesn't seem to agree. My woven is blue stripes and my Babyhawk is solid khaki on one side, so it's not the colors. I'm hoping the buckles on the Ergo will be more to his liking?

  • when we bought our Patapum, I asked DH what color he wanted so he would wear it.  He wanted khaki.

Don't worry about offending anyone - I think most people understand that not all DHs are on board right away.  Kudos to him for wearing the bjorn - he's halfway there!

  • My DH is the same way. Won't use anything but the Bjorn (he's worn the Moby once at home but even that took some convincing - he'd never wear it outside the house). Good luck!

  • My DH was not on board until he started using the Ergo.  I think the thick material and the buckles make it seem a bit more masculine for those men that are new to the concept.

  • My husband is wearing an Ergo in my siggy - he really likes it - it's very back-packy (front or back.)  VERY masculine.  Wink
    Wheee!

  • I actually say two men wearing maya wraps at the mall last weekend!  DH made fun of them but I thought it was great!
  • Dh far prefers the Ergo.  He wore her a few times in the Moby, a little more in the Mei Tai but he wears her all the time in the Ergo.

  • I think many men ease into babywearing with a soft-structured carrier.  However, my DH quickly found he'd rather tie the Moby than adjust the Beco when we switch between the two of us.  I also think he likes it when little old ladies fawn over him in the Moby ; )

  • DH and I both love the ergo.   But then again, DH is so proud of DD that he'd probably wear her in a hot pink carrier if he had to.

  • My DH got a Moby, in camo print and totally plans on wearing our little girl...even in public.

  • I'm in the same situation ;)

Right now I wear the Moby and DH wears him in the Bjorn. I've ordered myself a BabyHawk and told my MIL that DH would like the Ergo for Christmas.

And like others said: great that he wants to wear your baby! Who cares if he has some 'fashion' restrictions on carriers :)

  • My H was like this.  I sewed him a mei tai with Cleveland Indians fabric ::eye roll::.

He likes our Ergo more, though.  It is easier for him to get on and off.  Ours is just a dark blue color.  I would go that route, personally, or the Beco if it comes in any manly colors.

  • My DH doesn't really care. He's worn her in the moby and mei tai, as well as the Bjorn. He has been saying that he wants an Ergo though, so that will probably be the next carrier we get. I think it's a great option for a guy who wants something a little more "manly" Smile

  • My DH wears a brown Moby, lots of Dads seem to like the Ergo as well. We have one in brown, but LO isn't big enough to use it yet.?
  • Thanks, ladies.  I figure I'll get an Ergo for him.  I'll just use it myself if he doesn't like it :)  Best kind of present!

  • Yeah, I think the Ergo looks even more manly than the Baby Bjorn.  DH is a fan (even though I got the organic one with the butterfly embroidery!)
