CIO question

so...I've been trying very hard with the no cry sleep solution to get ds to fall asleep for me.  I rocked him forever tonight...

The past two night he had gone down for me...tonight I just couldn't physically hold him anymore so I had dh go try and put him to sleep.  He can always get ds to go down, usually very easily without any crying.  Sometimes though, like tonight, ds just cries, with dh standing over him...tucking him in,then making sure he's okay...but still without touching him.  Is this okay?  I HATE it but I don't know what else to do at this point if I can't get him to go down.

Re: CIO question

  • I don't consider that CIO because your DH is there providing some comfort. If DS would cry regardless of being held/rocked/worn/nursed then you continue to support him through the crying. It is so hard when you can't comfort them, though!

  • I think that is just fine.   We did that with our daughter.  We had a rough couple of weeks but now we are ALL getting more sleep and we are ALL happier.

  • Ugh we had those nights too.  I  had to play, as someone put it, the part of a human straight jacket because ds just would not quit.  Even when his eyes were rolling back in his head from exhaustion.  Things like this seem fairly common around here as you are there comforting and not just leaving your child there all alone.

  • We did a 10 day NCSS plan about a month ago. About half way through I almost threw in the towel - I thought it wasn't going to work. On day 7 we started seeing a good bit of improvement, & day 9 we were doing great. So keep at it, don't give up hope. If your plan doesn't work, go over the sleep logs, reassess what's going on, see if you need to tweak your plan, & do it again in a few weeks.

  • Thanks guys!  Makes me feel so much better!  It's so hard listening to him cry!
