any cd "experts"

I posted on the EFF before, but didn't get too many responses.  I am in a cd dilemma.  We have used BG 3.0's for close to 18 months now.  For the most part, we have been happy with them.   Lately they are leaking all the time and I have tried stripping them numerous times.  DS also knows how to yank off the velco and has peed/pooped on himself, because the diapers fall off.

So, DH and I are thinking of selling the BG's and investing in new diapers.  We have about 20 BG's and I am thinking I can get $100 for them.  I would buy about 15 new diapers.  Any suggestions on what diapers to get?  I am thinking we have about another year before potty training, so I am hoping this will be worth it.

  • You can probably get more than 100 if the velcro is decent! I would recommend diapers with snaps. If you haven't totally had it with BG maybe you could try the new organic AIO with snaps?

  • You could convert your diapers to snaps and get new inserts. Or get the new organic with snaps. I also really like Blueberries.

  • Yes, I need snaps!!  I am looking at some now with snaps.  The velco is decent on some of the diapers, but not all.  I just feel bad that they keep repelling and that's why I don't think I can get much more for them.  I am not opposed to the BG's, although I am disappointed that we didn't make it to potty training with what we have now.

  • Are you wanting to stick with pockets?  If so, I'd go with Fuzzi Bunz w/ hemp inserts instead of microfiber.  If you're not totally stuck on pockets I'd switch to fitteds - Sun Seedlings or Goodmamas.  Check out Spots Corner for really good GM deals.

  • I guess it would be easier to stick with pockets or aio's.  Our day care provider uses the BG's, but they are really easy to use.  I am hoping to stick with something similiar, so we can continue to use them at day care (and when the grandparents are changing diapers!!)

  • I second fitteds. We have some pockets for out & about but our fitteds are bulletproof.

For pockets, I really like GAD (Green Acre Designs). I use a hemp prefold in mine. They are side snap. I got mine at Pittsburgh Cloth Diapers.

  • I hated BG's.

A lot of it depends on what you want out of them. I love the absorbency of a prefold, but didn't find them any less convenient than a pocket or AIO. Some people do. I use only flats now (major water issues here) and I love them. I would suggest getting some different types--a few fitteds, some AIOs and have the rest of your stash be prefolds. Out of the hundreds of diapers I've owned (yes, really, I'm a diaper whore), prefolds have always remained my favorite. They never fail me! Fitteds are the next favorite. I'm just not a huge pocket/AIO fan.

  • Im with everyone else on the snaps, we have a few Fuzzi Bunz with the micro fiber but would get the hemp inserts instead. Also, plain ole prefolds would works too, I think.

Also, you could get a lot more then $100 for all your diapers, even in only decent condition. I would ask at least $140-$160 that $7 or $8 a diaper and totally reasonable

  • I am new at CD so I dont have any expert advice... but I will tell you I just bought 5 BG 3.0s for $14 each and I believe these have some repelling issues too :(

Can you just buy some new/different inserts?  Maybe that would help

  • I like my haute pockets with snaps, or my blueberries with snaps. HPs are much cheaper though.
