Did anyone have a 4th degree tear?

If so do you have any suggestions for me?  My doctor put me on Dilauted (narcotic) which is giving me constipation--yes definitely a problem since 3 days ago I had a 4th degree tear that required almost 2 hours of surgery to repair my sphincter muscles.

I now have to have a bowel movement...but obviously this is a problem.  Any suggestions on things you did?  I took colace and that doesnt appear to be helping.

  • Hmm .. try taking another form of stool softener.  Are you BFing?  If so, check with your doc about others that you can take.  If not, then go ahead with it!!

  • Sitz baths, stool softeners, Dermaplast spray (for stinging), and foods that helped make it softer.

I didn't have a 4th degree tear, but I had "trauma" down there I am still recovering from.

  • I didn't have a 4th degree but I had a 3rd degree.  Milk of Magnesia was the best thing I could take.

ETA:  It's safe for BFing...it was recommended by my OB.

Also, Colace didn't work for me either.

  • I had a third degree tear. Sitz baths really helped me.  I did two or three a day, and I healed really well. Good luck. Drink lots of water!
