Success after IF

I have C.Diff... and I am not insane!

I have been having a terrible time since Sunday night. I have had an AWFUL stomach ache and a headache constantly. Nothing relieves either. My belly hurt to push on it, and I honestly thought I was going to die, or I was nuts. I called my OB, and his nurse told me he said to drink more water and relax. I had PPD with DS 1, and I was worried that they were thinking my symptoms were psychological.

I went to walk-in care on Wed, and was sent home with instructions to see my OB as I was pretty PP. I called the OB this am, and was told to go to immediate care.... Got to Immediate care and was sent to the ER. By this point I was in tears because I felt like crap and was getting the run-around. I felt like no-one would treat me. The ER Dr. ran a CT scan with dye, and discovered my colon was inflamed, and I had a nasty UTI (AGAIN!) They diagnosed based on symptoms that it was C.Diff (bacterial infection in my intestine) and put me on two antibiotics.

I am not glad I am sick, but I am glad that there is a reason for why I feel so badly. I was getting to where I could not even lift little Lincoln because everything hurt so badly.

  • I'm sorry! I had C-Diff while I was pregnant and wound up in the hospital for 8 days. It is the WORST! Take care of yourself and feel better! I also recommend starting probiotics (I take Bacid) ASAP and to keep taking them to help ward off a relapse of the C-Diff.

  • Oh - and C-Diff is very contagious through contact. When I was in the hospital I was in isolation and visitors had to wear a gown and gloves. Make sure you wash your hands like crazy and scrub down the surfaces in your house as often as you can so your LOs don't catch it.

  • I would also recommend probiotics... it can (and often does) come back again once you're feeling better. Definitely take care not to spread it... and take care of yourself. C.diff is no fun!!!

  • Ugh sorry, hope you feel better soon.  Glad someone finally was able to give you an answer.
  • sister... i know how you feel.  I have Cdiff too right now... 2nd time in 6 months.  When I told the doctor I thought I had it again, they dismissed me.  But, after all the lab sample came back- yep cdiff again.  The pain is pretty distinguishing for me... feels unlike any stomach bug I have ever had.  What meds did they put you on?  I am asking to be retested after I am done with my 2 weeks of meds.  I want to make sure it is gone this time. I think a few germs were hiding out waiting to strike again from the last time.
  • I am on Cipro for the UTI, and Flagyl for the C.Diff. I really thought I was insane, or going to die!
