Poll: If you could live anywhere in the U.S., what state would you live in?

Cost is no object. Jobs, child care, everything is taken care of. You don't need to worry about any of that.

Me: Somewhere, ANYWHERE, with a beach and an ocean as my backyard. Probably Florida or South Carolina would be my pick. I would LOVE to just walk out of my back door and step into sand. My idea of Heaven.

Of course, once hurricane season came around I would probably regret that decision.

  • I'd move back to California

  • Napa Valley.

ETA: OH "STATE".  California, but only because Napa Valley is there with a few hour drive to Humboldt County.

  • Nebraska.

Bwahaha...yeah right I would love to move.  If I could move anywhere, I'd move back home to SC or even NC/Tennessee.

  • I would want two homes: a house in Austin, TX for the winter and a summer home on a lake in New Hampshire. Dh and I would also have to be able to freelance/work from home so that we could travel back and forth between the locations as desired.
  • I've lived near the beach and while it was really nice, it suuucked to be evacuated during hurricane season. I also didn't like that I had to fly anytime I left the state unless I wanted to drive for several hours.

On the whole, I actually prefer New York to anywhere else I've ever lived or wanted to live. If I left NY, it would be because DH wants to live somewhere more rural, something I am not sure I could adapt to.

  • Montana- quiet, serene, nature.

  • Honestly, I love where I live (Southern Calif).  The beach is less than 5 minutes away, and our city is not too small, but not too big.  If I want to go to a big city, LA is only an hour away, and if I want peace and quiet the mountains is another hor away, so no I wouldnt move anywhere else ;0)

  • i'd stay right here in california.

although i want a beach house in the florida keys at some point.  but since my brother is in florida, my parents in new hampshire, and my sister in alaska i can visit all those places without ever having to live in them again.

  • San Diego...provided that CA doesn't fall into the Pacific Ocean of course!

  • I love it here, but the public schools are crappy and most people that are born and raised here stay here with little opportunity to travel.    Sooo, probably somewhere like Kentucky or Virginia, out in the country with a horse farm!  That is my dream someday...

  • North Carolina. No doubt in my mind, we would move there if we didn't have to leave our family. I'd love to live in the Wilmington area.

  • I would stay in So Cal, I love it here!! Hawaii would be my next choice.
  • Washington or Oregon. I love it in the Pacific Northwest. And if cost was no objective.... I'd want an ocean view, for sure! We rented a house near the ocean for MIL's birthday and it was so neat. It was about a block from the ocean, but it was three stories and the third story had a living room and kitchen/dining area. The wall that faced the ocean was entirely glass and we could watch whales in the morning while having our coffee. It was amazing. Since that trip I've decided I want to retire in something like that!

My mom lives in Michigan on the lake! But she's moving. Sad It's so pretty! The area she lives gets a lot of freighters and it's pretty cool to watch them go by.

  • I actually love where I live in Virginia though the heat and humidity can sometimes be a biitch in the summer.  I think I would pick California if it truly lived up to all my expectations.

I went to school at Humboldt State and DH is from McKinleyville! :)

I would totally move back to California - San Fran Bay Area!

  • honestly, I would love to visit lots of places, but I truly LOVE living in WA...we have mountains, the ocean, puget sound, beautiful scenery, nice mild weather... love it. I could give up the gray rainy day we have this time of year, but they are not so bad.

?Funny I grew up in Ventura. :-) I would stay in San Diego where I am... just move into a bigger house a little close to the beach.??

  • North Carolina.  I hope we can move there someday.  I hate the wether where we live now.  I seriously hate it more than anything!!  Ridiculously long winters...I hate the cold!  I want to live somewhere with warmer weather

  • I absolutely LOVE where my brother lives, in Steamboat Springs, Colorado. Although I just don't think I could give up San Diego. I was born and raised here and love having the beach 25 minutes away, mountains 1 hour away, and the desert (we're desert rats) 1 hour away. I could do away with all the boarder issues here though.

  • I love the Northeast... I'd love to buy an OLD house with a lot of history on a huge lot. I can handle the weather. Maybe Rhode Island?  And maybe a summer home on Cape Cod... :)

  • I love living in NC, but I would love to live in Charleston SC
  • How come no one has said Ohio? Bwahahaha.

I'd live in North Carolina on the shore. Great weather, mild winters, and I'll just pretend like hurricanes don't exist.

  • I would live in the Real World Hawaii house.
  • Right here - WV.  I can't believe I'm actually saying that!  But the only thing I dislike about the area really is the financial instability.  If that weren't a concern I'd be happy here forever.

  • I would live in Swansboro, NC. My dad lives there and it is on the beach. Most beautiful place. Not only do you have the beach, but lots of trees too. It's like the best of both worlds!
  • I'd say #1 would be California, probably Marin county (bay area). #2 would be here in Colorado. I really love where I live.

  • Michigan..which is where I live! I love it. Love the seasons, love being nearish Lake Michigan. I love that we very rarely get natural disasters [floods, wildfires, hurricanes, tornados, earthquakes ect..].

I wish I lived closer to the upper peninsula though and less near Grand Rapids. My dream is a cabin in the woods somewhere far away from any big city.

  • If it has to be in the US I'm going to say Texas. I just love it. Otherwise I would be in heaven on a tropical island!
  • CALIFORNIA!  I'll never move out of state :-)
  • No where else but here.  Washington is beautiful.  We have desert, beach, rain forests, all 4 seasons and oh so many beautiful things.
  • San Diego, CA
