you can do it my dr said 15-20 and thats why i did with sawyer. it didnt take much work! just walk!
That is my plan! I am going to start working out 3-4 days a week hopefully. I gained 40 with Brooke and I just lost it all the week before I got pregnant again.
Ha! I doubled that with both girls... and Amelia was almost three weeks early. I can only imagine the damage that would have been done in the last three weeks.

i did exactly the same with A and S youll feel so good gaining less than 20. its a world of difference
My MW wants me to gain in the normal range 25-35, but one thing she does to help keep weight under control is give all her patients pedometers. She asks you to do 10,000 steps a day, gradually increasing from whatever you normally do. She said that when patients do it, they usually do well with weight gain and have an easier time taking it off afterward.
Were you overweight to begin with? I think weight limits on pregnant women are ridiculous. I gained 40 with DD and my OB nagged me about it every time I went in for a check-up, but I didn't have GD, didn't have high blood pressure, and I was gaining weight from eating lots of very healthy things, not junk. I followed my body's cues and feel like I gained the weight I needed to so that DD would grow strong and healthy.

I was losing weight before I got pregnant, too. I was (well, still am) below my pre-pregnancy weight, I lost 25 pounds. So I'm hoping that I won't go above my original pre-diet weight and will end up with less weight to lose this time around. *crosses fingers* I'm doing yoga this time and hoping to add in swimming soon. I just need a new swimsuit first!
You can do it! I gained 22 with K and am hoping to keep it right at that with this one. It's not too hard- I just eat very, very carefully and exercise when I can. Like punk said, I felt so good not hauling around a bunch of extra weight. I never had those extraordinarily uncomfortable weeks or even months that I lot of ladies have. I felt just fine at 40 weeks.
Oh, and I'm not overweight in the slightest. I've bordered on underweight most of my life.
Eh, I am not thin but I do not think I'm overweight.... my BMI may say otherwise. I am a size 8-10 which is normal to me but I guess overweight to some. I would love to weigh 10 pounds less but that won't happen now. I was on my way until I got pregnant and it all went out the window! I will just have to try and be careful and hope for the best.
Considering that you're not overweight then that sounds like very outdated 1950s advice. Does your OB happen to be an older doctor who is still a little old-school?
And just out of curiousity, if you don't mind me asking, what town/city are you in now? If you don't want to publicly share that info I totally understand, just curious since I'm also in Indiana.

you can do it. I gained half the weight with DS and felt great my entire pregnancy. I didn't have the uncomfortable time at the end or feel like "i need this baby out NOW" like I did with DD. Having a LO to chase after helps too. I also drank water like crazy and didn't have any swelling until the last week, then I gained 4lbs and had high BP, but otherwise I had a great pregnancy with DS.

i am a health food nut and i walk everyday. i gained 60lbs with Lu and i've gained 40 so far with this baby. my dr never bats an eye.
This is what my BFF did as well. She gained 60 with her first and didn't watch at all what she ate. With her second she ate really healthy and exercised 3 times a week and still gained 50lbs.
I weigh 10 lbs less at the start of this pregnancy than my last... last one they said 20-25 lbs, this one they said 15 lbs...! I don't know if I can stick to that. I had an 8.5 lb baby last time!

now that this is happening again, i seriously think i am just genetically predisposed to gain a ton of weight when i'm pg. but i lost all of the weight without any further effort once i had dd. so i figure, whatevs, my body knows what it's doing. i just try not to cringe when i see the scale at every appt.
I gained 40 lbs by week 32 (when I went into labor) with my DS and I was miserable with all the extra weight! If I were you, I would listen to your OB and eat healthy and exercise. I agree with the PP that even with that, you still might gain more weight than you want. But maybe not! My best friend gained 23 lbs and she was so much more comfy than I was towards the end.
I know that the next time around, I am going to eat super healthy and not see food as a "free for all". I've eaten healthy my whole life and let it all go when I was pregnant - big mistake. I was one of those people who it has taken forever to lose all the weight.
Good luck to you on the 20 pounds! I'm sure you can do it, though I wouldn't stress about it too much. As long as you eat well, and exercise your body will do what it needs to do.
And after reading the other responses, apparently I'm in the minority. I gained 50 pounds with my son, and I never had any discomfort. I had gained 45ish pounds at 36 weeks, I was still chasing 2nd graders at school, working 12 hours days, and I packed up and moved my entire classroom, by myself. While I was tired, I really think that anyone who wouldn't be, but I never felt "pregnant" until I was 37.5 weeks and only then because I went to the grocery store by myself and realized people were treating me differently. (We tend to grocery shop together, so I guess I just never paid attention to it before). I was not overweight before getting pregnant, either. I loved being pregnant, never complained about it. My husband can attest to it; he believes I was the happiest I'd ever been while pregnant.

i feel the same way... i gained 50 pounds with DD and i'm a small girl - so 50 extra pounds made me look like i was going to topple over any minute. luckily, the weight came off with no exercise... just time.
i have a feeling i'll be the same way with this pregnancy. heck, i just found out two days ago and it's like there's a monster in there - i am STARVING 24/7 and i am NEVER like this... i'll just close my eyes at the OB and try to ignore the creeping numbers.

It all comes off. I didn't worry about it.
Find a new OB!
I didn't get a maximum weight gain..maybe I should, since I gained almost 50 last time!! ::I say as I munch on chocolate chip cookies!::

i wonder why your dr said that?

I live in Northern Indiana, near Michigan.

Weird, I had a 40 pound limit with ds and I reached it even without eating junk and walking.
Your body is going to do what it needs to do, so don't stress out about it. The weight comes off after the baby comes.
