Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

1 year old DD still doesn't seem to like table foods. Help!

I've tried giving her almost anything I can think of. It doesn't matter if I feed it to her myself or let her try to pick it up and eat it, she doesn't seem to like "solids." She will eat her oatmeal and purees, and occasionally some puffs, but she will only eat 1 bite of anything else I give her.

Anyone else go(ing) through this?? Suggestions? Is this totally abnormal?

Now that she's almost one I'm getting worried. Especially since she doesn't enjoy sippy cups either, and I'm supposed to switch to those for milk. UGH!

  • We went through this too and still do to a point.  Give her time and she will come around.  My DD loves cheese, yogurt, spaghetti, spaghetti o's, bread, pancakes, waffles, and mac n cheese.  She will try other things, but if all else fails I know that she will eat those things.  She hates meat, and won't even touch it.  I keep offering it to her, but that's really all you can do.

  • My DS is the same way at 15 months old. I just keep trying different things and retrying things that he has previously rejected. It's a texture thing for my DS. He likes things that are very crunchy (like crackers) or very soft (like yogurt, mashed potatoes, soups, casseroles, soft cooked beans).  It's a daily struggle for us, so I completely understand what you are going through.

  • Yes, I briefly mentioned it in a post above.  I also just keep trying to reintroduce the table foods to her.  An OT told me that it can take upwards of 30x for them to get used to both the taste and textures of foods.  I had read 10 times but for now, I keep on trying.  She also told me to try table foods for 5-10 minutes of the meal and then use the food mill to grind up whatever we are eating for the night.

  • I guess I have to just stick with it. Not many kids eat purees when they get older, so they must figure it out.

I've tried bread/toast, crackers, yogurt puffs, sliced turkey, apples, pears, peaches, bananas, plums, cheese, and a ton of our dinners (spaghetti, etc). Ive also tried tons and tons of stage 3 foods, but she hates them.

The only things she has liked are mac n cheese and yogurt.

Thanks for telling me I'm not alone. I guess that's what I needed to hear. =)
