DH and I have been tossing around the name Davis. I personally like it - my only concern is that people would try to shorten it or make it cutsy, i.e. Dave or Davey (not a fan of those names!) But it's a fairly short name anyway, so maybe not? WDYT?
I'm sure as a teenager it will be shortened to Dave but I think as a child if all of your family members know you prefer Davis it will be fine.
You'll never avoid all nicknames. I know someone whose name is Rodney and he is known as Bernie to the majority of his friends. No idea where the nickname came from but there were two other Rodney's in his youth group.
Probably, but you can't really worry about that. ?We named DS Anderson knowing full well he'd probably go by Andy at some point. ?I dislike the name Andy and especially hate it with my name (Mandie), but I knew WE would always call him Anderson, so it didn't matter much to me what his classmates might choose to call him.
My brother Michael went through a "Mike" phase in high school, but reverted to Michael (what we've always called him) after graduation. ?But it's possible Davis would just be Davis- my husband is Jonathan and has never, ever let anyone call him Jon. ?So it just depends on the person, I guess.?

Yes. He will definitely be called Dave at some point in his life. I don't see Davey but you never know with some people.
I like it though. And as long as you call him by his full name, I don't think you'll really care if others shorten it. My brother's name is Daniel and even though his friends now call him Dan, our family always calls him Daniel and always will.
someone may try to shorten it, but just insist that everyone call him davis. my name is prone to nicknames, but i have always insisted on being called by my full first name and it's always worked.
definitely don't let the possibility of a nickname turn you off from a name you like!
I work at a daycare and a little girl named Samantha came here and we started calling her Sam or Sammy and the father corrected us say "her name is Samantha if I wanted to name her Sam or Sammy we would have called her that" So my point is that you can correct people when the child is young and hopefully it sticks. BTW LOVE the name, Davis!

I think it's less likely to get shortened than David. It's a cute name. You can also really set the tone for whether people shorten it or not. We're naming our little man James but I hate the nicknames Jim and Jimmy, but I figure if we always call him James and get his teacher to call him that too, then the nicknames are avoidable.
My name is 3 syllables and it never got shortened. The town I grew up in is called Davis. FWIW, no one ever referred to me being from "Dave" haha. :-).
