Anyone have any info. about cholestasis?

My friend just sent me an e mail that her friend who is having twins through a surrogate was just diagnosed with this.  I was just curious if anyone has any first hand experiences they would be willing to share with me?

I had cholestasis during my pregnancy. From my understanding it is some sort of blockage in the liver and bile ducts. The test to diagnose it is a blood test where they measure the amount of bile salts in your blood. My OB told me that this condition is very common in multiple pregnancies and will clear up on it's own after delivery. The worst symptom of it is it makes you extremely itchy, and nothing you can do relieves the itch. I have to be honest, that part was hell, it just makes you feel so uncomfortable. But if it's not diagnosed early enough it can have serious affects on the baby. There is a medication called Ursodial they put me on that helped with the itch a bit, but it was still hellish! I delivered about 4 weeks ago, and had some follow up blood work done, and my liver is completely back to normal already. Good luck to your friend, hope that helps!
