Baby Names

What name have you chosen and why did you choose that name?

We named our daugher Jane Collett (after many months of debate!)

We chose Jane because I simply adore it, specifically it reminds me of Peter Pan which was my favorite fairytale as a child (Wendy names her daughter Jane.)

Collett is a family name (my mother's maiden name and my sister's middle name.)

 you??

Re: What name have you chosen and why did you choose that name?

  • DD is Sophia Joy. We both loved Sophie but wanted her to have the formal name of Sophia. It means wisdom, and honestly this is my main prayer for her life-that we would raise her to be wise and to make good decisions. Joy was easy-she has brought us nothing but Joy!

  • We named our daughter Clara Valerie.  I never considered the name Clara, but I read it in a book - The Long Way Round, by Ewan McGregor, of all people.  His daughter is named Clara and I just loved the way it looked in print.  I convinced DH to go with it because we couldn't agree on anything else.  She is SUCH a Clara...I don't know how to explain what that means, but she totally suits her name.  Valerie is my grandmother's name.

Our boy name is William Michael James - for our grandfathers and my dad.

  • Henry Michael. Henry because it was one of the very, very few names we agreed on and Michael is DH's name (our families always use family names for middle names).

  • DD is Brooklyn Anne

Brooklyn was one of the only girl names that we agreed on, I liked it because it was not a very common name.

Anne is a family name. My middle name and my grandmothers' (on both sides) middle names.

  • I always loved the name Austin.  Willem is his middle name after my dad.  We had an easy time picking our son's name.

  • my daughter is avery elizabeth.  i've loved the name avery forever, and my dh also loved it.  it was the only name that we both really, really loved.  elizabeth is my name, and my grandmother's name, and a few aunts' names, and a few cousins' names.
  • I think we have decided on Julia Marie C. Not 100% on the middle name though, she will have the same initials as my mom, which I have no problem with.

  • Tyler- my husband loved and was set on this name. I liked it but liked Matthew better. Tyler grew on me, now I love it.

John, Dh's name, may dad's name, Dh's dad's name, DH's Uncles name...you get the point.

If there is a DC...Im stumped!!!

Your Mom and I spell our first names the same!!!

  • Marcus Patrick

Marcus - a name I have always loved

Patrick - after my mom, her name is Patricia

  • Dillon Richard

Dillon was one of 3 names we both liked, this one stuck. Richard is my FIL name, he passed away when I was 18 weeks pregnant.

A lot of years and a million tears finally led me to you.
After 7 years trying to concieve, 3 failed IUIs and 2 failed IVFs, my third IVF was a success!
My Christmas baby turned into a turkey bird! Dillon Richard was born at 34 weeks, 5 days on November 28, 2009 after 10 weeks on bedrest for preeclampsia.

  • We chose Brooke Nicole. Brooke was a name that we really agreed on and got a lot of positive feedback on. Also, it was the name of one of my favorite characters on TV. Nicole is my sisters middle name and I wanted to honor someone on my side of the family.

She was supposed to be Lila Rae and I'm glad we decided on Brooke because she's much too rough to be a gentle and airy "Lila."

  • Miles Peyton, Jonas Alexander, and Seth Ryan. All were chosen simply because we liked them. Most of the names in themselves have reasons behind them, but not any super important ties, really (with the exception of Ryan, which is DH's mn).
  • DS1 is Jackson (Jack) David-  My father is Jack, DH's father is David.

Possible name for DS2 is Charles (Charlie) Xavier- DH's grandfather and great-grandfather had the middle name Charles.  My great-grandfather  had the middle name Xavier.

  • Claire Cheyenne.

We don't exactly have a very memorable story of how we chose our daughter's name.  We were actually watching Wedding Crashers and that's where we got her first name.  I gave in with the second name since my DH loves names of 'places' and I couldn't find a middle name I liked to go with Claire that DH would consider anyway.  I kind of liked Claire Isabelle but DH did not like that at all.

  • Jason Brooks

Jason is my brother's name.  He was killed in a car accident when I was 19, and I wanted to name DS after him.

Brooks is DH's middle name and his grandmother's maiden name.

  • Girl: Elizabeth Jane

Elizabeth is my sisters middle name, Jane is my (and my mom's) middle name. We also love Jane Austen - esp. Pride & Prejudice.

Boy: We can't agree, but we'll def. be using my husbands middle name (Kenton) as either the middle or first name. He is a junior and we want to keep some of his name without having a Trip.

  • Evie Rose.  My great Aunts name was Evie (w/ a short E) and Rose is my favorite Aunts name.  I love both of them together it just flows nicely.
  • Twenty years ago, I named my son Brandon Keith.  Keith is my dad's middle name, and Brandon we both really liked and at the time, it was different.  Two seconds later, Beverly Hills 90210 came out and all the teeny bopper moms started naming their sons Brandon and Dylan.  There went that.
  • Molly, easy to say, spell and it fit her when her father saw her face

  • We named our first Aubrie Ashlin.  My husbad and I both loved Aubrie and since he is Irish and we got engaged in Ireland we wanted a Gaelic middle name.  Ashlin means dream so it was just perfect for us!!Big Smile
  • I absolutely love Jane and Elizabeth -- We won't use them together but if I get two girls it will definately be incorporated.l

You could name a boy WIlliam (as in Fitz William Darcy....lol).

  • We FINALLY decided on our name after much debate. But we came to a compromise to please both sides of the fam...

     Harlan was my great grandfather

    Phillip is my boyfriends Dad

  • Hilarie Dawn is our DD's name.

It fit my requirements for a name - barely even on the SSA list (I checked all spellings, as obviously this is a lesser used one) so not at all trendy right now, not made up and has a wonderful meaning "cheerful" that I hoped might describe DD (and it does!).

Dawn was another possibility for a first name and it seemed to flow nicely as a middle name.

Very few people will use this name right now because of the HRC association - made it even more appealing to me.  And while I'm not a huge HRC fan, I do not mind if people think I got the name from her.  I got the spelling from the only Hilarie I knew until HRC came along - I always just liked the -ie better than the -y spellings.
